New report from European Marine Board IVZW highlights the critical need for accurate and detailed marine habitat maps. This understanding is key to support a variety of marine policies and ambitions, including the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive and the European #GreenDeal. Why Marine Habitat Mapping Matters Accurate marine habitat maps are essential for effective marine ecosystem management and policy implementation. Despite their importance, large areas remain unmapped, and many existing maps lack sufficient biological detail. Higher resolution maps are crucial to better represent the complex interactions between the seabed and water column and to consider the marine environment over time. Embracing Innovation The report highlights the limitations of traditional mapping methods and the potential of new technologies, including Hyperspectral Imaging, Photogrammetry, and AI—core elements of PlanBlue's technology. Great to be at #WGIC general meeting last week in London. I especially liked the presentation by John Renard, who stepped down from his secretary general position and reflected on the history of the council. It made clear to me why I find this council resonates strongly with me. The council was founded by amazing leaders, such as Jack Dangermond, with the mission to create a collaborative platform for the #geospatial industry to #worktogether, impact the #worldeconomy as well as taking responsibility for the environment. This is exactly how PlanBlue does business. We strongly believe that we can only create positive impact for our #ocean by focusing on #scale, #collaboration and commercial success.
