Thilo’s 1981 Mercedes-Benz 300 TD, affectionately called "the red lady," was first registered just a few months before he was born. Despite this close timing, their origins are worlds apart. "The red lady was delivered new to Switzerland," says our colleague Thilo. "I, on the other hand, was born in Weimar, in former East Germany. My family was able to leave before the fall of the Berlin Wall, but until then, we lived in a country where estate cars were as scarce as freedom of speech and travel." In today's united Europe, Thilo has relished many road trips with his red lady, enjoying freedoms that were once unimaginable. #MercedesBenz

Another major milestone in the transformation. In our new eCampus in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim, we will develop and refine the perfect battery cell chemistry infused with ‘Mercedes-Benz DNA’ for our growing fleet of our all-electric models. Mastering the chemistry is key. That’s why we are researching multiple different options, including high-silicon anodes, lithium iron-phosphate cells and solid-state technology. The aim is: - High energy density - The capacity for super-high-speed charging - Excellent performance - To expand the knowledge base for industrialisation. Last week, we asked you to guess: What is the angle of inclination our vehicles can handle in the high-bank curve close to our Stuttgart Headquaters? The correct answer is: up to 90 degrees! If the banked curve is driven at the upper edge at speeds of up to 100 km/h, the car can navigate the curve without any steering inputs. Our journey into the future of electric mobility continues. Our new eCampus in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim is the key enabler for understanding and developing advanced battery cells as part of our sustainable business strategy ‘Ambition 2039’. - On more than 30,000 sqm, with scientists, engineers and production experts. - Investment of several hundred-million euros includes carefully controlled labs, where our scientists research advanced cell chemistries. - Several tens of thousands of cells can be produced here every year for the development of future battery generations.- More than 75% of the usable roof area of the new eCampus building will be equipped with photovoltaic systems to power batteries and test beds. Our goal is to close the battery loop. Using our 'Design for Environment' approach, specialists can consider environmental impact and recyclability from the very start of the development process through production, usage in our electric vehicle fleet to end-of-life.
