    UEFA EURO 2024™: The week that was ⚽ This week we want to spotlight the once-in-a-lifetime experience of the Lidl Kids Team From being flown to Germany, to enjoying all aspects of Lidl and UEFA EURO 2024 culture, the experience for our Lidl Kids has been much more than just the 90 minutes on the pitch. Each match became a special day, filled with emotions and fun activities, which we are sure will be remembered forever by the kids and their chaperones. 👦👧 240 lucky Lidl employees from across Europe won the opportunity for their kids to be part of the Lidl employees’ own Lidl Kids Team. While their kids were training in the stadium, the #teamlidl employees spent time getting to know each other and discovering the cities of Germany, enjoying walking tours together!⚽️ We talked to one of this week’s lucky winners, Maria Elisa, about her jam-packed weekend in Düsseldorf. Her favourite moments? Making friends with the other Lidl Kids Team members and Lidl chaperones, meeting the tournament Mascot, and getting exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the UEFA EURO 2024 stadium. “My mom and I had a lot of fun. We kids did it really well together. Thank you #teamlidl!” We also heard from one of the chaperones of the Lidl Kids Team match, Fátima, Consultant within the Engagement team at Lidl International, who echoed the excitement: “We were a really great group, and we all had a lot of fun together. Especially to see this enthusiasm in the children's eyes when they came back is really indescribable. It was a special day for everyone involved and will be remembered forever.” ❤️💛💙 This week on the pitch   As the tournament reaches its conclusion, there has been no shortage of drama and suspense on the pitch. Red cards, extra time, and penalties have all featured as we now have our final 2 for the tournament. Spain vs. England will go head-to-head in Berlin on Sunday, with the victor taking the grand prize. England looks to avenge their pain from three years ago, while Spain will look to regain their crown, last won in 2008 and 2012, aiming to become the first nation to win it four times.   The quarter-finals saw eight teams enter with ambitions to make it all the way. Spain defeated Germany after extra time, France conquered Portugal on penalties, with England doing the same against Switzerland, and the Netherlands beat Turkey. And then there was four. In the semi-finals, Spain won 2-1 over France. In the other semi-final, England scored in the 90th minute to beat the Netherlands 2-1.     Winning Tickets and being a part of the internal communication on the UEFA EURO 2024™ Verena, Junior Consultant in Corporate Communications at Lidl International, began her career journey with Lidl in 2021. Starting in the Sales and Supply Chain department, Verena is now a part of the Corporate Affairs department, where she works on internal communications. She creates engaging content for the intranet, including writing and posting articles for Lidl colleagues. For the UEFA EURO 2024, Verena and her colleagues manage the communication for #teamlidl at the headquarters. Part of this communication is to motivate them to take part in events such as public viewing and table football tournaments.⚽️✨ "I love being the messenger for such exciting topics. Getting positive reactions from my colleagues is incredibly rewarding, and I enjoy participating in the activities I promote!" Verena is also one of the lucky winners of an internal quiz competition, earning her tickets to the Portugal vs. Slovenia game at Frankfurt Arena. "The quiz was about how many asparagus boxes would fit on a football field. My partner and I went to the Lidl store, measured the box size and did some quick math. That got me into the lottery pot." 🏟️ Attending the game was a special occasion for Verena, who hadn’t been to a stadium in years. "The city was buzzing with international crowds, making it feel truly special. At the stadium, you experience all the emotions of the fans and players firsthand. We sat near the parents of the Lidl Kids program and saw their pride. The Lidl presence was everywhere, from billboards to the kids.     Success and commitment: Lidl-Trek at the Giro d'Italia Donne 🥇 Congratulations to our Lidl-Trek rider Elisa Longo Borghini for winning the first stage of this year's Giro d'Italia Donne! This high-performance race covers 876 kilometres and includes a tough climb on Stage 7 to Blockhaus peak (The Maiella) at an elevation of 1,680 m. Her team member Brodie Chapman came in third. During Stage 2, consisting of 110 kilometres between Sirmione and Volta Mantovana, Elisa Balsamo reached third place. 🚴♀️ Sport in general, and cycling in particular, has often given women less visibility and recognition. Today, the image is changing and we are proud to be part of this development through our sponsorship of Lidl-Trek. "When I started, my salary was significantly lower and we traveled by van. Today we have a full bus, stay in nice hotels and our races are even televised.     Behind the Scenes: Julia and Yannic's Journey with the UEFA EURO 2024™ Julia and Yannic, Consultants Sponsoring & Event-Marketing at Lidl International, worked closely as a dynamic "tandem" leading the UEFA EURO 2024 project. Julia, a hobby triathlete with a background in brand and communication agencies and sports retail, teamed up with Yannic, a passionate skier with experience in sports marketing agencies. Together, they brought their shared love of sports and extensive professional expertise to the project. ❤️💙💛 Their roles for the UEFA EURO 2024 had distinct focuses. Julia spearheaded the Lidl Kids Team program, working as the main touchpoint for Lidl countries on campaign implementation. Meanwhile, Yannic concentrated more on the ticket raffle, Lidl Fan Feste, and managing LED boards. "When the partnership was finalized, we had to piece everything together from the ground up," Julia explained. "From designing jerseys for the kids to organizing travel and ensuring fair allocation of the spots, there were countless details to consider."⚽️ The partnership was the largest sponsorship by Lidl to date and its first collaboration with the UEFA. "We pioneered new processes and platforms, which was challenging but incredibly rewarding," Yannic recalled. "Finding solutions sometimes took longer than expected, but we learned and grew so much from the experience." The UEFA EURO 2024 project was a collaborative international effort involving all European Lidl countries – not matter if qualified for the tournament or not. Julia and Yannic found the cooperation smooth and inspiring, with each country adapting the project to suit their market. "For some countries, football wasn't the primary focus. But the Lidl Kids Team wasn't just about football; it was about family and creating unforgettable experiences for our customers and colleagues," Julia added.     UEFA EURO 2024™: The week that was ⚽ Lidl has been on the ground again for week three of the UEFA EURO 2024 to see the eight teams make their way to the quarter finals! There has been plenty of action off the pitch, with an exclusive interview with a football legend (👀), Lidl employees experiencing the EUROs firsthand, and heaps of fans enjoying the Fan Zones. The Lidl Kids Team meet their football heroes 💛 This week, 176 Lidl Kids have followed the footsteps of the 792 who preceded them by stepping out onto the pitch to watch their heroes play. Football Legend, Philipp Lahm, shares a few words 🎙️ In our Lidl Magazine “FANZONE” for the UEFA EURO 2024, we interviewed the Football legend Philipp Lahm, Head of Organization for UEFA EURO 2024. He praises our commitment to provide sustainable and healthy options for fans during the tournament as we provide fresh fruit at the Lidl stands in the Fan Zones: “Healthy eating plays an important role in this triad of health, sport and education. It's great that Lidl is supporting UEFA with this campaign: as a result, this tournament leaves behind more than just beautiful goals.” During the interview, we also asked Philipp if he plans on visiting any Fan Zones. “Absolutely! That's what makes a tournament! I'm particularly looking forward to it. I won't reveal the time and place, it will be a surprise.” A first-hand perspective 🙋♀️ Sebastian, a lucky Lidl employee who won the opportunity to take his child Lorenz to the Turkey vs. Portugal game, shares his experience: “My son Lorenz couldn't sleep well at times because of the excitement, and we were really looking forward to the day. Grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, friends and even schoolmates sent me photos and short films of my Lorenz on TV, it really was an incredible feeling.” This week on the pitch ⚽ The last 16 certainly delivered on the pitch, with last minute equalizers, incredible saves, penalty drama and 19 goals!   Switzerland and Turkey delivered shock wins, over Italy and Austria respectively, while England needed a last gasp bicycle-kick to equalize against Slovakia, before winning in extra time.   Portugal saved a late penalty kick as they scrapped through on penalties.
