Christian Hertweck has been awarded the prestigious ERC Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) for #AnoxyGen. 🙌 In this project, Hertweck and his team from the Biomolecular Chemistry department at Leibniz-HKI want to analyze the unique biosynthetic pathways of #anaerobes – organisms that don’t need oxygen to survive. 🔬🦠 By using novel molecular and synthetic biology tools, the researchers aim to decode these pathways, and thus could potentially discover new compounds with various application options in biotechnology, medicine and ecology. The project also contributes significantly to the Cluster of Excellence Balance of the Microverse, which enhances our knowledge of microbial communities and their interactions. Congratulations to Prof. Hertweck and his team! 🔎 Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/eXYeBNS5 #ERCGrant #Anaerobes #Biotechnology #BiomolecularChemistry #ScienceForFuture #Microverse #BalanceOfTheMicroverse #LeibnizHKI Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena

Naturstoffe erforschen – Infektionen bekämpfen
Info

Hip hip hurray! 🎉 Shuaibing Zhang won the dissertation prize of the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena. Congratulations on this great achievement! 🏆 With this prize, the university honors the best doctoral theses of each faculty and celebrates outstanding young scientists from Jena. With his excellent research contributions, Shuaibing Zhang has well earned this special award. Zhang works at the Leibniz-Institut für Naturstoff-Forschung und Infektionsbiologie - Hans-Knöll-Institut as a postdoc in the Department of Paleobiotechnology, which is headed by Pierre Stallforth. In his doctoral thesis, Zhang identified new bacterial natural products that play an important role in microbial predator-prey relationships between bacteria and amoebae. 🎓🔬✨ https://lnkd.in/ekyhWRHy #Congratulations #AwardWinner #DissertationPrize #BiologicalSciences #YoungScientists #ResearchExcellence #PhD #Postdoc #LeibnizHKI #Paleobiotechnology #FriedrichSchillerUniversity #AcademicSuccess #UniJena #Schillertag #Promotionspreise #PromovierenInJena #BalanceOfTheMicroverse

Leibniz-Institut für Naturstoff-Forschung und Infektionsbiologie - Hans-Knöll-Institut hat dies direkt geteilt
To study how modulating the gut microbiome (the bacteria and fungi living in our gut) can help people with colorectal cancer, scientists need to collect and analyze patient data. Epidemiologists do this job. #PerMICCion's work depends on analysing fully anonymised patient data and biosamples obtained in two large epidemiological studies: the German National Cohort (GNC/NAKO) and Colocare. Patients sign an informed consent form, provide access to their clinical and lifestyle data, and grant permission to analyse samples collected by medical specialists (blood, stool, and tissue samples). The participation of patients in epidemiological studies is essential to advance the research and help people suffering or at risk of colorectal cancer. If you are interested in participating in a study, PerMiCCion is actively recruiting young patients (<50 years old), both with active colorectal cancer or recovered.
