ISCC - International Sustainability and Carbon Certification
Umweltdienstleistungen
ISCC aims to promote the transition to a circular economy and sustainable bioeconomy.
Info
ISCC Works Towards a Sustainable World ISCC’s mission is to protect forests, high-carbon stock lands, and biodiversity, enable waste utilisation, and increase traceability. We believe that sustainable supply chains are crucial to fight the most severe impacts of the climate crisis. Since greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are major contributors to climate change, we also consider the identification and reduction of GHG emissions as an important part of our work. Our vision is a world without deforestation and a truly circular economy in which we stop producing waste in the first place and instead create circular products and regenerate nature. Sustainable agriculture that increases biodiversity and creates healthy ecosystems is part of this vision as well as a resilient economic system which ends the consumption of finite resources.

Chain of custody options at a glance. 🔍 We've extensively discussed the benefits and characteristics of mass balance. But what is the difference to all other chain of custody options? What do they have in common and when are they applied❓ We've summarised their individual characteristics below.👇For more information visit: https://lnkd.in/e6FxapzK #ISCCCertification #ISCCPLUS #chainofcustody

Chain of custody methods are essential for tracking material movement along the value chain - from origin, distribution, location and application of products and materials.💡 The predominant options include controlled blending, physical segregation and mass balance. While they all fulfil the same purpose, their application depends on how non-conventional and conventional feedstock are handled in the manufacturing process. We, at ISCC, cover all three options under our ISCC PLUS certification scheme. Our chain of custody approaches provide you with a robust and credible solution to increase transparency and consumer trust. 🤝 Discover how you can leverage ISCC certified chain of custody options: https://lnkd.in/e6FxapzK #ISCCCertification #ISCCPLUS #chainofcustody

Mass balance approach for mechanical recycling applications at NUREL. ♻ NUREL sources ISCC-certified materials for manufacturing polyamides (PA), copolymers, plastic compounds and plastic yarn. In the production process, certified and non-certified materials are often mixed and cannot be physically segregated anymore. To overcome the challenge, the company relies on our mass balance approach. This methodology allows NUREL to attribute certified inputs to its finished goods by segregated bookkeeping. 💡 Read the full story 👉 https://lnkd.in/eypN3qQJ #massbalance #recycling #ISCCPLUS #traceability

Why do we need mass balance❓ In a nutshell, because it tracks certified materials along the value chain through verified bookkeeping. Moreover, it makes it possible to attribute the sustainability characteristics of the certified input materials correctly to the output. All this is possible, although the certified materials have been mixed with non-certified feedstock in the chemical production process. 💡 Let's go one step back: In chemical production processes, input materials of different origins and characteristics, such as certified recycled materials and fossil feedstocks, are often mixed. Once mixed, these materials cannot be told apart anymore. Luckily, using mass balance can help. Thanks to its methodology, the certified amount of material can be attributed to the output, even though the feedstock might not be physically in the end product. ❗Alternative feedstock sources for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. The aviation industry aims to reduce its climate impact and promote the widespread production and use of SAF to decrease greenhouse gas emissions from air transport. ❓ However, there is a huge question mark as to whether enough sustainable feedstock will be available to cover future demand. The industry is therefore looking for alternative feedstock sources. One of these are sustainably cultivated crops that are not in competition with food and feed production and do not entail elevated risk for land use change. ▶ One of our system users, FS Fueling Sustainability, together with one of its suppliers of corn, has shown that it is possible to apply innovative practices to cultivate crops in such a manner. Recently, they achieved low land use change (LUC) risk certification under ISCC’s CORSIA scheme. Get the full picture: https://lnkd.in/e5euD483 #SAF #bioethanol #LowLUC #ISCCCertification

First ISCC Low LUC Risk Certificate goes to FS Fueling Sustainability! 👏 Based in Brazil, FS Fueling Sustainability produces bioethanol made from second-crop corn. The corn is grown on existing land after the primary soy crop has been harvested – an approach that comes with a two-fold benefit: it avoids displacement of the existing cultivation and prevents the use of additional land for agricultural production. FS’ low-carbon bioethanol is suitable for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and can therefore help narrow the gap between SAF supply and demand. This is a remarkable milestone, and we are delighted that FS Fueling Sustainability is the first one worldwide to receive our Low Land Use Change Risk (Low LUC) Certification. The certification is recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Their certification sets a great example for being at the forefront of innovative agricultural practices and supporting the sector in increasing SAF volumes. Waste & Residues Training ahead! 🔽 Waste and residues play a crucial role in supply chains and their certification. If certain criteria of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) are met, waste and residues can be used for the production of biofuels, bioliquids or biomass fuels. In our upcoming Waste & Residues Training, you will learn more about the role of waste and residues in supply chain certifications. Date: 2 July 2024 Format: Live Online Agenda & registration: https://lnkd.in/ezSe5SsC Here's what we will cover in our half-day training: - Waste and residues definitions - Regulatory framework for waste and residue-derived biofuels in the EU - Certification and audit requirements - Risk assessment - Specific supply chain set-ups Make sure you don't miss our training and register via the link above.
