Only a few days to go until the start of the Olympic Games in Paris! 🏅 We are already very excited about this mega sporting event and we hope you are too! 😀 In the meantime, you have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of a magnificent sports facility built exclusively for the Olympic Games in Paris: 💦 The Aquatics Centre 💦 The Aquatics Centre is the only major facility built for the 2024 Paris Games, since 95% of the dedicated venues already exist or will be temporary. For the Olympic Games, the Olympic pool will be hosting the #diving, #waterpolo and #synchronizedswimming competitions. For the Paralympic Games, the stadium will be the #swim training facility. With 3,000 fixed seats and 2,500 temporary seats, level 4 competitions can be hosted. In legacy mode, the Aquatics Centre will be a public facility with a 50-m pool, a diving pool, a 25-m learning pool, multipurpose pool, and aqua-kids area. The centre will offer bouldering, fitness area, three padel courses, 5x5 football, and a restaurant. "Green goals: How can we design #sustainable sports facilities and #active communities?" will be the overall topic for the IAKS UK&Ireland seminar and facility tour 2nd-3rd October 2024 in Dublin, Ireland. ➡ Day one (Wednesday) features an exclusive tour of the Sport Ireland campus, where the low-carbon sports masterplan design and operational observations will be presented. Continuing the campus narrative, TU Dublin will discuss #sport and #wellbeing in university environments. ➡ Day two (Thursday) will take place at the world-class Aviva Stadium and will include a stadium tour. Expert speakers from Dublin City Council, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), and the Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports among others will discuss and debate pressing industry topics. “While every drowning is a tragedy, they are all almost always preventable.” – Justin Scarr, Chief Executive Officer Royal Life Saving – Australia IAKS member Royal Life Saving – Australia, with the support of the National Aquatic Industry Committee, has published the SAFE PLACES TO SWIM report. This report, with statistics from 2023, aims to increase #safety in the #community by strengthening the aquatic industry workforce and improving industry standards and practices.  The report emphasizes the need for continuous improvement of safety standards by: ✅measuring and benchmarking safety compliance ✅ increasing the number of facilities undergoing routine safety audits by Royal Life Saving ✅further professionalization of staff training ✅universal implementation of child supervision programs All information, findings and suggestions can be found in the SAFE PLACES TO SWIM report on our website. 🌲 Inclusive community hub enables swimming in a park setting. 🌲 In our latest issue of the sb magazine AQUATIC AND WELLNESS FACILITIES we showcase the Parramatta Aquatic Centre in Sydney, Australia. The PAC is in the Parramatta Park, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and is situated in a distinct landscape concept which acknowledges the site’s historical vocation as a gathering place. The idea of the new centre was to balance the #socialimpact of the development of Parramatta, deliver a positive impact for the #community with a space that improves #urbanvitality, and bring many people together in a place of #inclusivity and #accessibility. At the new Parramatta Aquatic Centre, the circular design makes the outdoor 50-metre pool the centrepiece of the facility. The pool reinvents the traditional aquatic centre typology. Grimshaw led the design partnership with Andrew Burges Architects (ABA) and McGregor Coxall as land­scape architect. The last stop of the 2024 IAKS study trip to Australia was Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Our delegates enjoyed the beautiful city and once again had the opportunity to visit great sports and leisure facilities in and around the city. Over the course of two days, the group of industry experts visited:   ✅ The Gabba / Brisbane Cricket Ground ✅ Suncorp Stadium ✅ Sleeman Sports Complex ✅ Brisbane Lions High Performance Center ✅ Gold Coast Aquatic Center   A very special venue we would like to highlight here is the Brisbane Lions High Performance Centre, which is part of the Brighton Homes Arena. The Brighton Homes Arena is setting new standards for the provision of equal opportunities facilities in an elite sporting environment. From concept to construction, it has the distinction of being the first AFL Women's Premiership arena to be designed in Australia.   In this year's sb issue STADIA AND ARENA you will find a very interesting and inspiring whitepaper by Dr. Irina Akhmanova of Populous on "Designing for women sports" in which she talks about the Brighton Homes Arena in more detail.   It is important to us to highlight venues that are taking new approaches and are state of the art in their field. After an exciting time in Melbourne with great excursions and the fantastic National Sports & Physical Activity Convention, our delegates of the 2024 study trip to Australia made their way to Sydney. The weekend started with a more relaxed program with walks through the Botanic Gardens and Manly Beach. On Sunday, our delegates then visited some very exciting places such as:   ✳ Coogee Surf Life Saving Club – home of a volunteer organization founded in May 1907 to help people who get into trouble or even drown at Coogee Beach. The organization's mission is to train qualified lifeguards who are available to the beach and the public. In 2021, the clubhouse was awarded the IPC IAKS distinction.   ✳ Heffron Sports Hub - a multi-activity facility serving the community of Maroubra and surrounding areas, providing programs and access to state of the art sports, dance and gymnastics programs and facilities to engage people of all ages and abilities.   ✳ Moore Park, home to the Sydney Swans headquarters, Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium The Sydney Cricket Ground has a rich history and a diverse range of sporting events and entertainment. It proudly hosts cricket, Australian rules football, rugby league, rugby union, soccer, baseball and even cycling competitions, as well as major concerts.   Allianz Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium. Built as a replacement for the original Sydney Football Stadium, it was officially opened in 2022. The ground’s major tenants are three different rugby clubs. It was one of the venues for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and will host 2027 Rugby World Cup matches.   The program also included an NRL match between the Roosters and the Wests Tigers at Allianz Stadium on Sunday evening.
