🌈Excited to announce: Quouch has raised a mid six-figure amount! 🚀 I’m incredibly excited to share that Quouch has closed its first Angel round. Quouch is the newest invite-only social network for queer people and women, offering a unique platform for couchsurfing, hanging out, and co-working. With over 6,000 users in all major EU and US hotspots, Quouch is being used every day. Right-wing parties are globally on the rise, and only last year, more than 70 anti-LGBTQIA+ laws were passed in the US alone. At the same time, 21% of Gen Z identify as queer. This shows that there is an enormous need for safer spaces and connection. It has never been more important to have strong networks “from within”, existing independently of trends and elections. Quouch is another tool to defend democracy and to contribute to a free world for all of us. Mein erster Live-Podcast 🤩 Letzte Woche im St. Oberholz durfte ich bei einem bcause Event mit Felix Oldenburg und Janina Breitling sprechen. Es kostet mich immernoch Überwindung, meine Geldgeschichte zu erzählen, doch wenn sie andere inspirieren kann, immer gern. Denn ich sehe For-Profit oder Non-Profit gar nicht so differenziert. Ich investiere in Klimaschutz. Egal ob ich als Business Angel/LP investiere oder ob ich in die Gemeinnützigkeit spende. Das ist beides ein Investment in eine lebenswerte Zukunft. Quouch is the newest social network for queers and women. You can couchsurf, hang out or co-work at each others places. We have 5.5k users quite evenly distributed all over Europe but also US and... Columbia, Brazil... So last week I had the huge honor to host Laura Tellez Cárdenas and Sandra C from Bogotá at my place in Berlin!! They are honeymooning and traveling Europe with Quouch! Can you believe it? Quouch is used by travelers who would stay in hotels otherwise. The primarily reason to use it is NOT to travel cheaply, but to find connection. Not even the most expensive hotel could offer you this experience. Couchsurfing is at the moment for us the most feasible. But of course we aim at the possibility to offer homeswaps, as well as the opportunity to rent out spaces for travelers who want a bit more independence but still local connection. In three years, we will be the central hub for queer peoples travel needs worldwide. With 21% of the Gen Z identifying as queer, a much higher median HH income, higher spending habits on trips BUT at the same time still facing much more danger and discrimination - the need for safer spaces and connection is HUGE. Wurde Klimaschutz bei der EU-Wahl abgewählt? - Nein! Die EVP, unter deren Leitung der Green Deal ins Leben gerufen wurde, hat sogar noch mehr Sitze bekommen. Doch der Rückhalt für den Green Deal wird schwächer. Durch den Rechtsdruck wird es schwieriger, dringend notwendige Maßnahmen umzusetzen. Der Markt vertraut weiter auf das Klimaschutzinstrument der EU, siehe Bild. Der Preis pro Tonne CO2 ist im EU-Emissionshandel stabil. Es gab einen kurzen Einbruch gestern. Da haben wir mit ForTomorrow natürlich direkt Emissionsrechte weggekauft ;) Danach ging der Preis wieder hoch. Für mich persönlich war das Desaster der EU-Wahl, das eine Partei in den Ländern stärkste Kraft werden konnte, wo sie als gesichert rechtsextrem eingestuft ist. Zum Glück hat diese Partei auf EU-Ebene wenig Einfluss. Selbst die französischen Rechten wollen nicht mehr mit ihr zusammen arbeiten. Für uns hier in Deutschland ist es ein klares Signal: Wir müssen unseren Einsatz für die Demokratie verstärken. Im Vergleich zu den Umfragewerten Anfang des Jahres ist diese Partei bereits abgestürzt. Doch gerade in Gebieten mit geringem Einkommen gewinnt diese Partei weiterhin. Durch den Klimawandel nehmen Extremwetterereignisse zu. Diese treffen Menschen mit geringem Einkommen besonders hart und sorgen für neuen Nährboden für Extremismus. Um dem entgegenzuwirken brauchen wir das Klimageld und vor allem mehr Investitionen in den Klimaschutz. Last year I made my first limited partnership (LP) investment in the climate VC Contrarian Ventures. Now I attended my first annual general meeting/summit in the beautiful Swiss surroundings. It was amazing to meet and learn from so many people from different regions all working on or supporting climate solutions. And I was positively surprised by the number of female LPs, investors and founders. It’s crucial to have the right people in place to enable and implement new technologies. All too often people try to fit new technologies into old structures. Someone (Chatham House Rules) predicted the future will bring deglobalisation and localisation. Global trade will fall. Resources will decline in importance and human skills will rise in importance. It’s all about people. One part of the prediction worried me: In a transition some people do good some bad. And when things go bad the simple solution seems to be blaming a group. People fall for the false claim that we could just go back to a glorious past by keeping this group out. And the easiest group to choose are foreigners. Unfortunately, we are already seeing this more and more in Germany. Apart from the suffering they cause, such prejudices are extremely economically destructive and lead to things going even worse. Fortunately, there are already people who are working on demystifying this false „simple solution“. A lot to do and it was reassuring to meet people who don’t „move fast and break things“ but move fast and fix things! Let’s support each other! Last year, I took the plunge and made my first angel investment. I met Marc from the startup Cula Technologies at a climate tech event. At that time they only had a first prototype not even a company. But he convinced me, because they solve a major problem in climate protection projects. In many climate protection projects, the amount of CO2 reduced or removed from the air is greatly overestimated. There is a lack of transparency and of tracking entire projects. Cula makes accurate tracking attractive. They started with biochar. Cula tracks exactly how much CO2 the biomass takes out of the air, how much is emitted in the production process and how much is stored long term in the soil. Cula gives businesses exact results of how much CO2 has actually been extracted from the air and permanently stored. And that's exactly what we need if we want to stay within the 1.5 degree limit. We need to combine and scale technology and nature. Because nature is the most efficient at extracting CO2 from the air and technology helps us to protect the climate in a meaningful way. Was für ein Jahr… Direkt im Januar habe ich mich einem lang verdrängten, schmerzhaften Thema gestellt. Ich habe endlich etwas bearbeitet, das gefühlt meine berufliche Existenz bedroht. Dies gab mir Kraft für ein anderes Thema. Eins das wirklich unsere Existenz bedroht: die Klimakrise! Vielen Dank für die Hilfe, die ich auch über LinkedIn erhalten habe. Gute Verbindungen helfen auch zur Lösung der Klimakrise. Weg von einer egozentrischen Denkweise hin zu einer gemeinschaftlichen Denkweise. Jetzt bin ich sehr dankbar für die vielen wunderbaren Erfahrungen dieses Jahr! ForTomorrow Highlights: 💚 Über 1 500 Menschen und Organisationen bringen mit ForTomorrow Klimaschutz voran. 🏅 Wir sind ausgezeichnet worden mit dem PHINEO gAG Wirkt-Siegel. 💶 Wir haben das erste Jahr mit mehr als 1 Mio. Spendenumsatz erreicht. 🏭🚫 Über 17 000 Emissionsrechte haben wir stillgelegt (Stand Dezember 2023), d. h. über 17 000 Tonnen CO2 werden weniger in der EU ausgestoßen. 🌱🌲🌳 Über 50 000 Bäume werden in neuen Wäldern wachsen in Deutschland. 🙌 Unser Kernteam ist gewachsen von vier auf sechs. 📺 ForTomorrow war zur Primetime im Fernsehen auf Pro7 – im Film "Wie die Natur uns vor dem Klimawandel schützt – 5 Ideen, die Hoffnung machen" mit Katja Riemann und Benno Führmann. ✅ Ich bin Vorstandsmitglied im Bundesverband Nachhaltige Wirtschaft (BNW). ⚽️ Wir haben großartige Kooperationen, z. Was hat “Reise nach Jerusalem” mit Klimaschutz zu tun? Bestimmt bist du auch schon zu Musik um Stühle geflitzt und hast dich diebisch gefreut, wenn du jemandem den Platz wegnehmen konntest. Und das ist nicht so einfach. Bei “Reise nach Jerusalem” sind nämlich immer weniger Stühle vorhanden als Mitspielende und wer keinen abbekommt, ist leider raus. Nun stell dir einmal vor, die Mitspielenden sind die großen CO2-Emittenten der Welt und die Stühle sind Emissionsrechte, die ergattert werden müssen. Bekommt jemand kein Emissionsrecht, darf er auch kein CO2 mehr ausstoßen. Genau so funktioniert das zentrale europäische Klimaschutzinstrument: der EU-Emissionshandel. Ruth von Heusinger hat vergangene Woche auf dem Sustainable Economy Summit erklärt, wie wir den EU-Emissionsrechtehandel nutzen, um den CO2-Ausstoß der EU zu senken. Wie in “Reise nach Jerusalem” stibitzen wir den großen CO2-Emittenten Stühle weg. So zwingen wir große CO2-Emittenten, weniger CO2 auszustoßen. Dadurch können sich CO2-freundliche Unternehmen besser durchsetzen und wir treiben die Energiewende voran. And we need venture capital. Capital that can take higher risks and scale solutions fast. Plus we need more women in this world.
