Our partner Intelligent Energy has announced a multi-million-pound commitment to testing fuel cells in the UK for the aerospace and automotive industries – and our #AEM Nexus 1000 will play a key role in their new facility: The British firm Intelligent Energy (IE) is a leading fuel cell developer and manufacturer. Last week, our partner announced a multi-million-pound investment in the UK’s net-zero infrastructure with the development of a new fuel cell testing facility at Chelveston Renewable Energy Park in Northamptonshire. The facility will open in 2025 and will enable the testing of fuel cell systems with output of up to 1.3MW. Powered by 100% local renewables, Enapter’s MW-sized AEM Nexus 1000 electrolyser will be able to produce more than 100,000kg of green hydrogen annually to be used in IE’s new state-of-the-art test stations. Alongside our AEM Electrolyser, Intelligent Energy has invested in two bespoke test laboratories, supplied by Proventia Oy from Finland. Once this infrastructure is in place, the site will be able to test both the capability and durability of Intelligent Energy’s fuel cells at scale. It is expected that hydrogen fuel technology will lead the way in decarbonising air travel for regional and sub-regional aircraft. The increased testing capacity that will be unlocked by the new test facility at Chelveston will ensure the power density, efficiency, reliability and durability of fuel cells for the aviation sector. Intelligent Energy CEO David Woolhouse says: “This is a significant investment in the UK’s clean energy future and [...] a demonstration of how much-needed green hydrogen can be generated from renewables. This is not only a significant step towards the decarbonisation of emissions-heavy industries such as aviation, but also a step towards the energy storage solutions that could further encourage the uptake of renewables.” We’re very proud to contribute to this role model project and support Intelligent Energy’s efforts to further drive innovation in clean tech. ⬇️As a first in France, this island project will prevent the curtailment and loss of excess renewable electricity by converting the surplus to green hydrogen: Learn more about the central role 63 #AEM Electrolysers will play in this project: Solar developer CORSICA SOLE operates a 12MWp photovoltaic power plant in Folelli, one of the two largest plants on the French island of Corsica. But since its commissioning in 2017, the operator has faced several hundred hours of energy losses per year due to #curtailment. When too much renewable energy is produced, the grid operator limits the amount that can be fed into the grid due to stability constraints of the electricity network. That’s why our CEO Jürgen Laakmann is excited by Corsica Sole’s upcoming Folell'Hy project: “Avoiding the loss of excess renewable electricity, as Folell'Hy aims to do, is one of the biggest challenges and opportunities we face in the energy transition. Enapter’s #AEM Electrolyser technology is perfectly suited to converting intermittent renewables into locally-produced green hydrogen.” Our integration partner HENSOLDT in France will realise this project drawing on 63 of our modular AEM EL 4 electrolysers as well as their compressing and storage equipment. The Folell'Hy project aims to produce 2 tonnes of green hydrogen per year – recovering energy surpluses that have been lost until now. The resulting increase in energy self-sufficiency will reduce the island’s dependence on fossil fuel imports and their high price fluctuations. The hydrogen is also to be used in heavy maritime mobility, namely for an H2 training ship at the vocational maritime school in Bastia. This pilot project is a first step to gather real-time data. Corsica Sole plans to scale up to larger projects at a later stage. “We’re delighted to be part of this effort to replace curtailment with maximised production of clean energy. Together with Corsica Sole and Hensoldt Nexeya France, we look forward to piloting and proving a solution that brings strong renewables production capacities to island regions,” adds Jürgen Laakmann. CEO @ Enapter - Bringing Green Hydrogen to the World

We’re taking big steps forward in our US business with Clean H2 Inc.. Let me share a few developments from my last trip to Houston for Enapter: Last week, we met again with the team of our exclusive US distributor Clean H2 in Houston, Texas. At the end of May, we already announced that they had bagged initial #AEM Electrolyser orders worth USD 5.4 million. We’re delighted that the US market expansion is progressing so quickly. However, as a customer-centric company, building a service chain is just as essential. That’s why we supported Clean H2 hosting a technical training, following the motto “train the trainer”. Building up a local service chain with competent local partners will also further speed up our logistics and rollout in North America. A huge thank you to our partner Pneumatic and Hydraulic Company in Houston, for being such gracious hosts. Their training space provided the perfect environment for local partners and customers to learn and engage. Moving forward, Clean H2 plans to offer this training twice a year in the USA, giving customers valuable insights into green hydrogen and Enapter’s AEM Electrolysers specifically. This event was perfectly timed just before the Hydrogen Technology Expo North America – also in Houston. It was nice to get in touch with potential new customers and have a chat with familiar faces like Chris Allo from ElektrikGreen, Chris M. Muench from Hyviva, Julio Jimenez from CRYOGENIC TRUCKING, INC., Greg Harris from Intelligent Energy and Ulf Joergensen from H2 Core Systems GmbH. And if you’re also looking to start your own green hydrogen project in the US or anywhere else in the world, don’t hesitate to contact me. #greenhydrogen #H2USA #cleanH2 #electrolyzer

With the help of our partner Rengineers and our #AEM Electrolysers, this 19th-century island fortress now boasts a unique, self-sufficient clean energy system👇 At the end of May, the Dutch Minister of Climate and Energy Rob Jetten opened the brand new, sustainable energy supply of Fort Island Pampus – honouring the past and inspiring the future. As the cornerstone of the Defense Line of Amsterdam, #Pampus was an ultra-modern defense structure in 1895. During war, two hundred soldiers had to be able to survive off-grid on the island for three months. Electricity was generated by a steam engine, rainwater was purified and food was canned and pickled. But it was not prepared for the eventual arrival of military airplanes and so little was left of Pampus other than a ruin and became a place for parties, demonstrations and art after World War II. After years of research and renovation, the island has now been transformed into a role model for innovative and decentralised clean energy supply and circularity. Powered by wind, sun and bio-fermentation, a combination of green hydrogen, lithium batteries, thermal storage and heat pumps provides fossil-free energy storage all year round. The locally produced green hydrogen comes from Enapter’s #AEM Electrolysers – integrated by our Dutch partner Rengineers. And so, in 2024, Fort Island Pampus is now a historical icon with a hyper-current message. How surplus renewables and AEM Electrolysers are replacing natural gas in Colombia.⬇️Learn more about this first-of-its-kind power-to-gas project: Located on the Carribean Sea in the northeast region of Colombia, the department of La Guajira offers abundant sun and wind energy. That’s why researchers of the Universidad de Antioquia and the University of La Guajira kicked off a joint project with the goal to develop and evaluate a power-to-gas (PtG) system using renewable energy surpluses – and produce both green hydrogen and methane gas. This is particularly remarkable because La Guajira is not only home to the largest coal mine in Latin America, but also to a rich natural gas deposit. It’s the first PtG project in Colombia. Powered by 15kW of local wind and solar power, Enapter's #AEM Electrolysers produce onsite green hydrogen. The produced H2 can then be stored at the electrolysers’ outlet pressure of around 30 bar. The system is controlled by Enapter’s Energy Management System (EMS) Toolkit. A big thank you to our local integration partner TRA | Tratamiento y Remediación Ambiental (Busso Group) who supported the planning and commissioning of the system. This project presented the challenge of designing and constructing a methanation reactor and a burner for 100% hydrogen combustion. The researchers’ methanation reactor achieved a CO2 conversion rate of up to 92%, while the hydrogen burner successfully operated using hydrogen as fuel without any flame stability issues. Congrats to the teams on achieving this milestone! These findings will help to make more renewable energy usable (surplus energy in particular) and pave the way for scaling this solution for larger systems in Colombia and beyond – providing another perfect example of how you can pilot a rather small system to prove and scale it up in a second step.
