EMBL’s 50th anniversary symposium was a great success. More than 1000 attendees came together in person and online to celebrate #EMBL50. It was a great occasion to bring together the EMBL community, showcase EMBL’s scientific contributions, and discuss its future directions. A huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped to make this symposium possible, to all participants who contributed to the fantastic programme with engaging presentations and lively discussions, and to all the people who support and contribute to EMBL! Last but not least: happy birthday EMBL! We look forward to what the future holds!

If the genome is the blueprint for building an organism, the proteome is the construction crew along with some of the working materials 🏗. By studying all the proteins in an organism, proteomics helps us understand health and disease. It’s also a crucial tool for making personalised medicine a reality. What are some of the challenges and opportunities for researchers wanting to harness the full power of proteomics? Find out how the advanced proteomics technologies and expertise at EMBL are making a difference, and how they could support your research. https://lnkd.in/g-CxN5u9 #proteomics #bioinformatics #massspec #datascience #openaccess

Congratulations, Nick Goldman and Mikhail Savitski! Both EMBL group leaders have been elected as EMBO members in recognition of their research excellence and scientific achievements. EMBO members contribute to shaping European science and fostering research communities across Europe. Every year new EMBO members are elected, thus enriching the community and bringing in knowledge and expertise in emerging research fields in the life sciences. This year the EMBO community of more than 2,000 scientists was joined by 120 new members, including Oliver Billker, a member of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, and eight EMBL alumni. EMBL, with the Institut Pasteur, The Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden, MIMS, the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, and the Wellcome Sanger Institute, has launched a new funding initiative called ‘Amplifying Funds in Infection Biology’ to strengthen interdisciplinarity and collaboration in infection biology in Europe. The co-funding is intended for research groups from these specific partner institutions to bring together different expertise. Successful applications will include at least one EMBL partner and at least one collaborator from these specific organisations that are providing fund matching. Each project will investigate vital aspects of infection biology, such as pathogen-specific protein machines, host-pathogen interactions at different scales, human genetics influencing infection susceptibility, and innovative approaches to combat antimicrobial resistance. Application deadline: 25 October 2024 Further information: https://lnkd.in/ePtna_FJ
