Winners of the 2024 Amsterdam Impact Investment Case Competition! We are thrilled to announce that the team from Waste to Wealth has won the 2024 Amsterdam Impact Investment Case Competition at the University of Amsterdam - Amsterdam Business School. This talented group of students impressed the judges with their innovative and impactful investment idea. In the grand final held today, the teams were tasked with proposing an investment that delivers both financial returns and societal benefits. Each team conducted thorough financial analyses, risk assessments, and impact evaluations. The winning team from Waste to Wealth focused on a critical issue: poor waste management and sanitation in low and middle-income countries. This issue places enormous pressure on public health, the natural environment, and government budgets, leading to 840,000 deaths annually due to inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene. Their solution? Developing a new recycling plant in Kumasi, Ghana. This plant will transform waste into valuable resources like fertilizer and renewable energy, making sanitation and waste treatment more affordable and sustainable. Congratulations to Marco Caminada, Luuk Wanner, Thomas Wessels and Julius Peeraer for their remarkable achievement and their commitment to creating a positive impact on the world! More than 500 tons of biochar have just left our warehouse and have landed at our agricultural customer in Brandenburg, among others. There, the biochar is used as animal bedding in stables, ensuring longer dry lying areas and significantly less odor. 🐮🌽 Other customers use biochar as a building material 🔧🏗️ and for substrate production. Dort wird die Pflanzenkohle als Tiereinstreu im Stall genutzt und sorgt so für länger trockene Liegeflächen und deutlich weniger Geruch. 🐮🌽 Andere Abnehmer nutzen die Pflanzenkohle für die Verarbeitung in Baustoffen 🔧🏗️ und zur Substratherstellung. Es gibt unzählige Einsatzzwecke und die CO2-Bindung gibt es als Bonus dazu. ☁️
