📢 DEG has committed a loan of USD 25 million to the Mexican #GreenBanking pioneer CIBANCO, S.A.. The financing will enable the future growth of CIBanco's loan portfolio in the productive sector and thus help to close the financing gap for local companies, among other things. 💚 Having started to establish a #GreenStrategy ten years ago and calling itself the first green bank of Mexico, CIBanco has developed a green loan portfolio, offering, for example, solar panel loans. CIBanco additionally offers financial incentives for clients that commit themselves to a set of #sustainability principles.   🌳 CIBanco is the first Mexican bank to adopt the Equator Principles, a set of guidelines on environmental risks for project finance. The bank is also part of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), whose objective is to promote responsible finance and sustainable development. #fin4dev

I just came back from a field trip to North-Sumatera to visit two mini-hydroelectric power plants. One with a capacity of 2 x 4 MW (serving 44.000 households) and a second one with a capacity of 3 MW (still under construction). Both are financed by Indonesia Infrastructure Finance who is a leader on ESG and strongly committed to foster the green energy transition in Indonesia. This is also a key strategic goal for DEG and as a founding shareholder of IIF we are very much committed to support them in this. The management team around the CEO Dr Reynaldi Hermansjah did a great job in positioning IIF as an ESG champion in Indonesia. For me as a commissioner of IIF, visiting the plants was an impressive illustration for the innovative and transformative character of IIF‘s investments in Indonesia. Der vergangene Mai war der #Diversity-Monat, in dem die Mitarbeiter und Mitarbeiterinnen der KfW Bankengruppe und ihrer Gesellschaften (DEG, KfW IPEX-Bank, KfW Capital usw.) sich mit #Vielfalt und #Inklusion in der Arbeitswelt durch mehrere Awareness Sessions für die verschiedenen Dimensionen der Charta der Vielfalt e.V. auseinandersetzen konnten (z.B. durch Austausche mit Employers for Equality, sowie mit PROUT AT WORK-Foundation zum Thema #LGBT*IQ usw.). Dieser #PrideDayGermany gibt uns eine neue Chance, um mehr #Sichtbarkeit und Öffentlichkeit von queeren Menschen in der Arbeitswelt zu besorgen, und die Bedeutung der Vielfalt, der #Chancengleichheit und der #Gleichberechtigung im Arbeitsumfeld zu beleuchten. 🌿🚰 Die GWP Jahreskonferenz „#GlobalWaterResponsibility – Gemeinsam für die Globale Wasserwende“ ist bereits in vollem Gange. Seit Juli 2018 ist sie Geschäftsführerin der DEG Deutsche Investitions und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH, einer der weltweit führenden Entwicklungsfinanzierer. 📢 Heute erschienen: Der entwicklungspolitische Bericht der DEG für das Jahr 2023! 💪 Trotz politischer Unsicherheiten und Marktvolatilitäten waren unsere Investitionen in 2023 nicht nur wirtschaftlich erfolgreich, sondern erzielten auch erhebliche positive #Entwicklungswirkungen: Die von der DEG finanzierten Unternehmen erwirtschafteten im vergangenen Jahr lokale Einkommen in Höhe von 235 Mrd. EUR – d.h. über 12 % mehr als im Vorjahr. Mit 3,3 Millionen ist auch die Zahl der von den Unternehmen in Entwicklungsländern beschäftigten Menschen gestiegen. 💚 Auch die Beiträge der DEG-Kunden zu den globalen Nachhaltigkeitszielen #SDGs sind weiterhin hoch: 85 % der Kunden haben sich wirtschaftlich erfolgreich entwickelt und tragen durch höheres lokales Einkommen zur Armutsbekämpfung bei. Die von der DEG mitfinanzierten Energieversorger produzieren jährlich rund 32 TWh Strom aus erneuerbarer Energie und können damit aktuell über 32 Millionen Menschen versorgen. So werden 22 Mio. t CO2-Emissionen vermieden. 💡📏 Die Entwicklungswirkungen ihrer Investitionen sind ein zentrales Steuerungsinstrument für die DEG, die sie seit 2017 mit dem von ihr entwickelten #DevelopmentEffectivenessRating (DERa) misst. Die Auswertung des DEG-Portfolios 2023 zeigt: 76 % der DEG-Kunden leisten einen Beitrag zu #Innovation durch neue Technologien und fast 85 % engagieren sich gemeinnützig, z. B. für Bildung und Gesundheit. Mit dem weiterentwickelten Rating DERa 2.0 soll zukünftig unter anderem die durch die DEG geförderte #Transformation stärker in die Wirkungsmessung einbezogen werden. 🌞🔋For the first time, DEG is financing the construction and operation of a 200 MW solar power plant and a 500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan.  DEG is co-financing this 100% green project with a senior loan alongside our partners KfW IPEX-Bank, EBRD, Standard Chartered, Proparco and Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). ⚡️ The project is an important step in Uzbekistan’s efforts to integrate renewable energy sources into the energy mix and highlights the growing importance of battery storage in enhancing grid stability.
