CAVICORE salt cores were recently tested by PROSIX ENGINEERING. These cores are used to manufacture moulds made of 100% salt, making them environmentally friendly and easily washable with water. CAVICORE moulds are being used by Prosix to manufacture carbon fiber parts that will be assembled in the technology demonstrator of a satellite mission. The cores have been tested to manufacture components by using prepreg carbon fibre for space applications with high temperature curing cycle. The results have proven to be highly satisfactory, with an excellent surface finish. The use of release agents or sealers is not needed due to the remarkably low porosity of the salt cores. The use of CAVICORE salt moulding system has been a great success that allows to streamline the manufacturing process of complex carbon fibre components by not requiring the application of any surface agents and simplifying demoulding processes. Unter Verwendung der von CAVICORE hergestellten Salzkerne entwickelte und fertigte die Connova Deutschland GmbH ein komplexes CFK-Demonstrator-Bauteil. Dieses Bauteil wurde im Wickelverfahren hergestellt und dient dazu, die Praxistauglichkeit sowie das Potenzial der Cavicore-Technologie zu verdeutlichen. Die Kerne bestehen zu 100% aus Salz, wurden ohne die Verwendung von Werkzeugen produziert und lassen sich einfach und sicher entfernen. Using the salt cores produced by CAVICORE, Connova Deutschland GmbH developed and manufactured a complex CFRP demonstrator component. This component was manufactured using a winding process and serves to illustrate the feasibility as well as the potential of the Cavicore technology.
