Our mission is to revitalise the construction industry by providing CO2-negative, climate-positive concrete
Info
At Bton, we understand the devastating environmental impact of construction on our planet. Our mission is to revitalise the construction industry by providing CO2-negative, climate-positive concrete. Bton’s climate-positive concrete absorbs more CO2 from the atmosphere than it emits. It is CO2 negative. Not only is it CO2 negative, but we achieve many other benefits through our innovative proprietary technologies and processes. We utilise a precast production method to produce all concrete types. Our proprietary technologies allow us to produce lightweight concrete with the same compressive strength as regular concrete. With 40% of the weight of concrete existing to support itself, eliminating this 'dead weight' has the potential to transform the construction industry. We require fewer materials and eliminate waste. We use locally available and previously unusable aggregates, reduce water consumption, utilise waste materials, and remove the reliance on steel. Our solution is scalable, affordable and being used right now! Bton operates state-of-the-art, highly automated facilities and produces high-quality precast elements, including sandwich facades. We currently operate in Europe and South America and are expanding to Asia, MEA, Africa and North America.

🔝🔝 The LIFE Programme COSTAdapta is in #Dubai!!! 📌Our partner ECOncrete is currently present at COP28 DUBAI to present its projects. 📌Among others, he will explain our LIFE Programme COSTAdapta project, whose main objective is to address the adaptation of the coast of Gran Canaria to sea level rise through an innovative methodology. To this end, the aim is to design and test an innovative and progressive tidal pool-reef system, partially using the traditional tidal pools construction technique common in the Canary Islands and the rest of Macaronesia, for the progressive adaptation of the coast of Gran Canaria to climate change. 👉If you are at #COP28 these days and want to know more about this project, don´t hesitate to visit them and learn about this project which aims to strengthen the resilience of coastal areas to sea level rise, while promoting the creation of habitats characteristic of these areas. 📍 We wait for you at: Startup Village - Kiosk #46 #LIFEAmplifiers #TidalPoolReefs #Innovation #Biodiversity #Resilience #LIFECOSTAdapta #CoastalAdaptation #ClimateChange #Coasts #CanaryIslands #Sea #Tourism #Sustainability #Economy COP28 UAE CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency Canarias7 Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Universidad de Cantabria Ingecid RALEY Estudios Costeros ECOncrete Fundación Canaria para el Reciclaje y el Desarrollo Sostenible (Fundación Canarias Recicla) Fundación FINNOVA (EU) Fundación Biodiversidad Alejandro Sánchez Cabrera Gobierno de Canarias Energía Gobierno de Canarias Consejo Insular de la Energía de Gran Canaria Universidad de La Laguna Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico Àlvar Trabazos Claveria Sam Suter Talli Sharron Rozowsky

A great article published yesterday by Thomas Lane of Building.co.uk assesses how the construction industry can mitigate the upfront embodied carbon impacts of construction. The most effective way to reduce upfront embodied carbon emissions from construction is not to build anything. However, as the world population is set to hit 10 billion by 2060, the worlds building stock is expected to double. The article titled 'The Innovations to tackle construction's carbon problem' offers four approaches which reduce embodied carbon emissions: 1) Reusing buildings (refurbish/retrofit) 2) Reusing materials 3) Using materials more efficiently 4) Reducing embodies carbon of familiar materials As highlighted in the article, there are plenty of existing methods to reduce the carbon impact of construction. However, two significant barriers in the UK limit their application: regulations and tax structures, which do not allow/promote the use of these innovations. Significantly, at B-ton, our carbon-negative/optimised concrete meets all EN-Norms and does not require preferential circumstances to be affordable. We utilise locally available aggregates, including recycled materials, within our precast production process, which ensures efficient material usage. We also reduce the embodied carbon of familiar materials such as cement within our optimised recipes. Our precast modules provide flexibility and can be used to construct new builds and refurbish existing structures. We produce carbon-negative and optimised concrete, which can be used today. Michael Gove's decision to deny M&S permission to demolish and rebuild its Oxford St store will turbo boost the search to find ways to reduce upfront carbon emissions from construction. Building Magazine looks at the work already being done to tackle this including reusing materials, using these more efficiently and innovative alternatives to cement. We also look at what else would help reduce construction's massive carbon footprint.
