Chief Environmental Officer Audi & Managing Director Audi Environmental Foundation. Creating Sustainable Transformation.
From a visionary idea to one of Germany's most sustainable land revitalization projects: #Audi #incampus wins the Brownfield Award 2024! What makes the project unique? Without using new land, the incampus high-tech center was built on a 75-hectare former refinery site. To make this possible, over 900 tons of heavy oil, 200 tons of light gasoline, and toxic chemicals were removed in one of Germany's largest soil remediation projects. More than 600,000 tons of soil were excavated and washed, 220,000 square meters of soil were cleaned, and groundwater was treated. Opened in 2023, the incampus now hosts innovative companies in #sustainability, #mobility, and #digitalization – such as AUDI AG, CARIAD, and the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt. 15 hectares of the area remain permanently undeveloped and nature-oriented. As one of the most prestigious awards for land recycling in the German-speaking region, the #BrownfieldAward is an outstanding recognition for all project participants and a special acknowledgment of their joint commitment to a sustainable future.
