🌍 Last Friday, Drees & Sommer had the pleasure of attending and contributing to the AHK Greater China-organised ESG Day 2024 event. It was inspiring to see so many individuals and companies passionate about ESG and the innovative solutions available on the market. 🤝 The event provided a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces and build new connections. The discussions were insightful and forward-thinking. 🎤 One of the highlights was moderating a panel discussion on "Sustainable Business" with representatives from Würth Group and rose plastic. We explored their inspirational journey in creating a Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certified product, showcasing groundbreaking approaches to sustainability. Kudos to them for leading the way in creating a better tomorrow and setting new standards for others to follow! We are taking stock of 2023! Despite a turbulent year, we stuck to our growth path, with sales increasing to EUR 900 million and the operating result totaling EUR 102.7 million in 2023.      “In previous years, we had already adapted to the changing market environment with foresight. The future lies in existing buildings 💡 Existing buildings play a central role when thinking about future-proof property projects. Targeted measures enable us to make them fit for a sustainable future and meet one of the biggest challenges facing the construction and real estate industry: reducing their CO₂ footprint and using resources responsibly. This attitude has become even prevalent in recent years as it is closely linked to the central goals and challenges of our time: climate neutrality, resource conservation and waste avoidance. Existing properties offer enormous potential CO₂ and cost saving while becoming less dependent on resource suppliers. But how do we make existing properties truly sustainable and fit for the future? ➡️ Energy renovation by improving thermal insulation and using renewable energies: the heating of the future will be powered by electricity or supplied by local or district heating. Heat pumps play an important role in this context. ➡️ Utilizing the CO₂ advantage: converting existing buildings consumes fewer new resources and releases less CO₂. ➡️ Conversion according to urban mining principles: buildings contain valuable raw materials. These need to be identified and made usable again at the end of a property’s service life. ➡️ Use of recyclable materials: building materials produced according to the Cradle to Cradle® principle make existing buildings sustainable and reduce waste.
