Q: Reality check: I think [reality-check] is a meta tag. Should we burn it?

Thomas MarkovI think the reality-check tag is a meta tag. In The Death of Meta Tags, we see: The reason meta-tags are a problem is that they do not describe the content of the question. They describe some other aspect of the question, like the author’s skill level, or the author’s motivation for asking it, o...

Q: When to burninate

CDspaceUpon seeing this question, I took a look at the user tag, and it currently has 1366 unanswered questions, and 4326 total questions. Seeing as that's quite a lot, I thought I'd help with the burnination (am I correct in thinking the burnination is done by users?). However, I can't really tell when...

Q: [strategy]: burninate or fix?

Thomas MarkovThe strategy tag is in bad shape. It's low volume, only 24 questions (14 open, 10 closed) so this is like cleaning the base boards behind the fridge, but big or small, we clean things when we see they need cleaning. The first observation I want to make is that it is often being used to tag questi...

Burninate the countryside? Or was that someone else?
Mar 17, 2022 9:15 PM
Handle them the same as closed questions: burninate and leave the remainder to be converted to another tag (if that's still the plan)

Q: What are reasons to remove (or "burninate") a tag?

Groody the HobgoblinI have seen multiple discussions here about if this or that tag should be removed as it has outlived its utility. I understand that the objective of tags is to help attract expertise to a certain question area. It is not clear to me what the downside is for having any given tag. I think there is ...

I noticed something earlier while going through past burninate requests: there was a burninate request for the mimic tag that received approval, but it was never actioned and the circumstances have changed since then. It's not 2 historically + 2 in the last day, it's now 12 and has a tag wiki. And I'm pretty sure right now I'd vote to keep it rather than remove/alias it. I'm not sure what to do with this information.

A: The [character] tag is in serious need of help, else it may need to be burninated

Thomas MarkovI recommend some retagging and then 🔥BURNINATION🔥 I thought about this for a couple days, and I've decided to recommend burninating the character tag. I think that between the tags player-characters,npc, villain, gmpc, and sidekick we can cover all of the questions that are actually about some ...

Q: The [character] tag is in serious need of help, else it may need to be burninated

Thomas MarkovI found myself browsing through the character tag, and I think it needs a lot of help. I'm not sure it can be saved, but I'll outline the problems I'm seeing and maybe the community can come up with some good solutions. Tag Description Overlap First, we've got some tag overlap based on tag descri...

But if you're decision is to not, then we can just ask the mods to burninate.
Mar 2, 2022 6:12 PM
I agree, if you don't want to continue, we should burninate the tag (not strip from questions.)

@NautArch We should burninate meta. All of it.

The real question: should we burninate the ones we already have?
Mar 2, 2022 11:41 AM
@NautArch mods can burninate the tag without bumping the questions I think

A: How do we request to have a tag blocked?

Shog9The general procedure is as follows: First, burninate the tag, if there are currently questions tagged with it. If there aren't currently questions tagged with it, you probably don't need to have it blocked - but see Step #2. Once the tag is gone - no longer used on any questions - decide if it...

A: burninate new-gm tag

doppelgreenerThe low-hanging fruit has been... SSD made a great point: there are usages of new-gm where it isn't a meta tag, but it just gets overwhelmingly used as one. I've gone through [new-gm] and eliminated it from the questions using it as a meta tag. I've targeted questions where it's been used as ...

Q: Do we need the [trying-new-systems] tag?

SecespitusI stumbled upon the tag trying-new-systems. Sadly it has neither a tag wiki excerpt nor a full tag wiki, and I can't find any discussions about the tag to learn something about the reasoning behind the tag. It's currently used for four questions: Fate based minigames in a historic/fantasy rea...

I also wonder if Thomas has a good idea. @Trish if we choose to burninate the tag, what harm does that do? I don't grok VTM so let me know what I am missing.

Q: Should we get rid of [3pp]?

doppelgreenerThird party publishers themselves are awesome, so their existence isn't in question. Rather, I'm wondering about the 3pp tag. Ostensibly it's meant to indicate the question's referencing third party material, but it barely gets used (6 questions since its creation in February this year). we ha...

Q: Burninate Mimic tag? Do specific monsters need specific tags?

NautArchThis particular monster gets a tag, but does that mean every monster gets one? And then do we need to worry about editions/RPGs having different uses? Q: Should the [pixie] tag be synonymised with the [monsters] tag?

NathanSToday I noticed that we have a pixie tag, relating to the D&D creature (mostly about 4e, although there's one 5e question too). Q: Is there much point in having a [tone] tag?

NathanSSo, we have a tone tag that currently only has 3 questions. I feel like it doesn't really add much on top of the tags that those questions already use. It isn't a very frequently used tag and I don't see it particularly helpful with regards to searching for "tone" related questions. Should we...
