@sigil @AndyBonner's post is really worth thinking deeply about. By reversing the question — asking what classical traits you like, then finding those traits in more contemporary genres — you'll probably discover a rich trove of musics that might not have occurred to you/us by comparing today to yesterday. Also, I second the suggestion of "Epic" music. Searching for that on YouTube will get lots of results, and it's definitely classical at heart — very much movie/game music in function.

We would never have guessed that they had it, and I think there's a very large cohort of people that go undiagnosed, partly because the history of autism has given the "high-functioning" cohort other labels like "asperger's," and tv shows and movies like Rainman or The Good Doctor focus on level 2-3 people who are more strongly affected or require more support, and there might be a large undiagnosed cohort of people who are able to "mask" and "pass" but who take more effort to do so.

So first of all, don't push yourself too hard. Social anxiety is very common among adults, and anyone who isn't prepared to recognize and make allowance for it is the person who needs to change, not you.

The chord practice tools are a bit hit and miss, I think - if the child really wants to learn chords then they are great, but they aren't fun, and at this stage you probably want fun first

There is a story behind all these: It was the colonial era in India, and when a British missionary (or whom?) approached his friend Muthuswamy Dikshithar, he had talked about music. After listening to and observing some chapel songs, Dikshithar composed some 'nottuswarams' (Tamilised version of Note Swaram).

The smallest of songs, yet they give a feeling as if you are in England in a massive concert hall listening to Mozart's or Beethoven's piece being played.

I'm a music theory beginner who is trying to learn more as a hobby. I have some basic theory background, I know intervals, scales (not by heart though), chord structure. But I really struggle with chord progression, modulations, functions and piece analyzes. Could somebody recommend a good read or youtube course or something that could help me get going? I'm looking for something more persistant and longer, like a book, series of articles or a course, compared to just one article.

getharmony.net was a very interesting web page with a lot of tools where you could get the notes of a song with guitar through a spectogram and make a tab to interpret it. Unfortunately it is down, but I would like to know if there is an alternative that offers the same tools or if this page has moved to another domain.

@ElementsinSpace I don't know why or when, but I think the lead rumor would be something related to the strike. Regardless — and with or without explanation — I do hope we'll see him back on the site soon. I've always found his posts admirable and a model for the site.

Re music.stackexchange.com/q/130640/78419: This is a 21st-century song, but it definitely has American folk influences. If I had to assign it labels, I'd actually call it something like "indie folk," in the same sense that Sufjan Stevens or the Fleet Foxes are "folk" artists.

Hi! I'm a longtime MuseScore user exploring alternative notation programs (they don't have to be free). Do any of these programs offer recommended voicings for harmonies? I'm looking for a feature that analyzes the harmony and suggests suitable voicings based on specific criteria. If such a tool exists, please let me know which notation programs provide this feature.

@Theodore I don't really think there's a difference. Personally I'd say that for instance G# has "eight sharps", but if someone else said it has "six sharps and one double sharp", I wouldn't jump in to disagree. And reading it from a staff, it seems that the formally correct way to phrase it should be "one double sharp and six sharps", as that's the order it's written in.
