Sharing and learning is becoming the driver of radical innovation

Info

opensource.construction is an open, inclusive platform that bridges the gap between analogue and digital people, between construction and technology, between great ideas and concrete projects that advance the industry as a whole - today, not tomorrow. To actively drive change along the „open“ movement, we have set ourselves three main areas of activity. First, informing all stakeholders in the building industry about the potential of the open source movement; second, connecting like minded people with physical and digital events; and third, and most important, supporting the launch of open source / open data projects. 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀! Tomorrow, Thomas Krijnen will talk us through his journey with #IFCopenshell. We will cover topics like... 👉 why he started with this project 👉 how it is maintained 👉 why he still works on it although IFC has some fundamental limitations 👉 what his vision is for the further development of the library 👉 why he thinks #opensource is fundamental for further advancements in the real estate and construction industry (spoiler: he is very pragmatic about this) But that's not it: it's a community meet-up so there will be plenty of time for you to ask questions, too! 115 people already signed up but there is space for more. Looking forward to see everyone tomorrow 🙌

Yes, we did it! The HumanTech team is winning again at the CV4AEC challenge at CVPR 2024. Our framework has proven to be leading in semantic segmentation and the full BIM reconstruction pipeline, which fully relies on open standards using #openSource #openBIM tools such as the BlenderBIM Add-on by the fabulous Dion Moult. Thanks for the great collaboration to the team Dr. Jason Rambach, Marius Schellen, Mahdi Chamseddine and Cheng Lu. Looking forward to presenting this at the CV4AEC workshop at CVPR on 18th June 14:25 PDT. The link for online participation will be shared when available.

𝗢𝘀.𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿! 🌟 A lot has happened since our Hackathon in February. There is a lot to tell and that's what we are going to do right now with our newsletter: We will talk about new projects, new upcoming events and new partnerships. Yes, you heard right. We are starting to join forces with other organisations that follow the same mission of opening silos in our industry. BIMTank, led by Ivan Jimenez Acosta hosts great talks for architects with an interest in tech. Feel free to join one of our upcoming calls! 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 🆕 𝗩𝘆𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀 Have you ever wondered how to visualise the content of your Revit models without going through the hassles of exporting and connecting complicated dashboards to your data? 👉 Go and have a look at vyssuals. It’s a very cool #opensource plugin that allows you to visualise the content of models in real time in the browser. 🙋♂️ Any further questions? Yskert Schindel is happy to answer them! 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼-𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁 A lot of knowledge is created in a short time and innovation cycles are getting shorter and shorter – how do you make sure to stay up-to-date? 🌲 With the Circular Construction Co-Pilot Project, we are aiming to build the Stack Overflow for the construction industry and enable dynamic knowledge sharing for everyone along the value chain. The project is supported by the Circular Building Industry Innovation Booster and co-hosted by the C33 initiative. Want to learn more about the project? Check out the detailed description on our website 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗿 Together with our friends @Righetti Partner we build a tool to make your life a little easier.   ✔ Model quality is at the center of successful BIM projects. The goal of this tool is to provide a quick check on the overall health of a model. It comes with a couple of standard tests – if these succeed, it's worth to look deeper into the model. Otherwise probably not.  We designed it to be really easy AND secure. All data stays on your local machine – no data will be send anywhere, all checks are performed locally. Go and try it out on our website. 𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘀.𝗰 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 📆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗽 - 𝗜𝗳𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹 We are launching our community standup on June 20th at 12:30 CET with a presentation about the journey of Ifcopenshell. Thomas Krijnen will talk about how he maintained, grew and contributed to one of the most popular open source BIM libraries. https://lnkd.in/eWJ_M5tr 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 📺 Speckle Hackathon Speckle is hosting another online hackathon, “Beyond the Speckleverse”.  Hurry, it's starting soon! Sign up for the event Speckle. 🤷“ 𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘆, 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁” 🤷🏽 For a long time, nobody in the construction industry had to say that. Technology and processes just haven't really changed 🧱🚧🏗️. It feels like these times are over. Innovation cycles are getting shorter and shorter, also in the real estate and construction industry (think #BIM, #cloud, #AI, #circularconstruction, …). Customers expect you to deliver sustainable buildings, including data for improved life cycle management - even if you haven't done "it" before. 🙄 While new trends and technologies hit organisations more and more frequently, many are caught up in their daily business. There is no time to research and learn except in ongoing projects. ⏩ 💥 With the 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼-𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁 project, supported by the Innovation Booster - Circular Building Industry (CBI Booster), we are proposing a powerful way to speed things up and break the slow cycles. The key is >>> 𝗱𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 <<< across organisations, as perfectly displayed by Stack Overflow. 🏃 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 in the sense of "bottom-up", not controlled by a committee but a community, not limited to one opinion but open to multiple perspectives on a single problem. 💭 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 in the sense of information that is based on practical experience and is directly applicable in day-to-day project work. 🤲 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 in the sense of not limited to internal employees (very limited resource pool), but open to a much larger community (huge resource pool). 👇 ----- This is what’s in for you ----- 👇 > We have experts on board to build the technological infrastructure and to define the community rules. > We have a neutral non-profit organisation to host the knowledge hub. > We have setup a co-creation process with a focus on #circular #construction. 👀 Now, we are looking for you: For #owners  / #developers / #planers / #builders / #demolishers / #operators /  #ProductManufacturers or someone else who is serious about establishing #new #business in the realm of #circular #construction. 👉 Are you keen to improve internal #knowledge #management and your #community #building skills? 👉 Are you interested in learning hands-on about the potential and limits of #AI as an enabler for dynamic knowledge management? 👉 Do you want to get early access and make sure, the project supports the transformation of the sector,  #circular #products and new #business #cases? 🤜 🤛 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺: 𝘄𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝟴 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁𝘀, 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 🚀🚀🚀 More info in the link in the comments. opensource.construction C33 - Circular Construction Catalyst Circular Hub ZHAW Life Sciences und Facility Management Marloes Fischer Kira Kulik Prof. Dr. Isabelle Wrase Christian Kongsgaard Karim Daw #opensource #openinnovation #letsdoit
