We're proud to extend our partnership with Zürcher Kantonalbank.   The Swiss bank signed a long-term agreement with us to permanently remove around 1,750 tons of their unavoidable CO₂ emissions. As highlighted by CEO Urs D. Baumann, carbon removal represents a key part of their net-zero strategy.   They already recognized the importance of direct air capture for our global climate goals in 2014 when our partnership first started - a decade ago, when this industry was nowhere near where it is today.   Thank you for your climate leadership, Zürcher Kantonalbank! We were honored to host Nathalie Marti, Switzerland’s Ambassador to Norway and Iceland, at Climeworks’ Mammoth plant. Her visit highlighted the crucial role carbon removal plays in achieving our climate goals.   Iceland is targeting climate neutrality by 2040. The launch of Climeworks' Mammoth plant in 2024 established Iceland’s position as a leader in direct air capture and storage, leveraging renewable energy from Orka náttúrunnar / ON Power and storage expertise from Carbfix.   Norway aims for a 90-95% emissions reduction by 2050, emphasizing its dedication to climate action. With abundant renewable energy and geological storage potential, Norway is poised to advance direct air capture projects and solidify its role in combating climate change.   Thank you, Ambassador Marti, for your inspiring visit. Exciting Developments in Kenya   Last week, Climeworks' Head of Policy & Government Affairs, Louise Matthias, and Project Development Manager, Rachael Mather, were in Kenya with Great Carbon Valley and Africa Climate Ventures. What a day! Wrapping up the Climeworks Carbon Removal Summit 2024 🌍 From June 4-5 in Zurich, hundreds of experts came together to discuss the future of carbon removal. This fifth edition of our annual flagship event showcased the latest advancements and strategies needed to scale the industry. Highlights included:  ➡ The unveiling of Climeworks’ Generation 3 technology, a breakthrough in filter efficiency and performance, set to debut in the U.S. with Project Cypress. ➡ Dynamic discussions on how the private and public sectors can lead the race to zero. Midday Update from the Climeworks Carbon Removal Summit in Zurich! 🌍  What have we learned so far? Jan Wurzbacher & Christoph Gebald, co-CEOs of Climeworks, shared their inspiring vision and proudly unveiled our groundbreaking Generation 3 direct air capture technology. They expressed heartfelt gratitude to the core team on stage, celebrating their meaningful contributions to this remarkable achievement. Oliver Geden from Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), in conversation with Maria Leis from Breakthrough Energy , provided an in-depth analysis of the current state of carbon dioxide removal. Kaya Axelsson from Oxford Net Zero reviewed the Oxford Principles for net-zero aligned carbon offsetting. Lars Kroeplin of Lufthansa Group discussed the critical carbon removal needs for aviation and other hard-to-abate sectors. Sebastian Kaczynski explained SAP’s approach to sustainability.
