    Conventional VFDs need to be placed close to the motors they control to avoid or limit cable damage. This is due to voltage spikes and corona discharge from the PWM signal generated by standard VFDs. To counter these issues, various solutions are available: dv/dt filters, Common mode chokes, VFD-specific cables, or positioning the VFD next to the motor. However, these solutions come with challenges: - Filters are bulky and increase the cost of ownership. - VFD-specific cables are four times more expensive than standard cables. - In some applications, like submersible pumps, placing the VFD next to the motor isn't feasible. While these solutions have been effective, a new alternative, the Clean Power VFD, addresses these problems at their root. This drive delivers a pure sine wave, with a zero common mode voltage.     Your VFD efficiently controls your motor, but are you entirely satisfied with your current system? Has the addition of a VFD brought along new issues? When we asked our customers before they switched to the Clean Power VFD, their main concerns were harmonic distortion and bearing damage. As you may know, these issues are caused by the diode-bridge rectifier and PWM signal generated by conventional VFDs. To address these problems, you typically need to invest in an external harmonic filter, external sine wave filter and shaft grounding ring. While these solutions extend motor life and protect the grid, they also increase the cost of ownership and reduce the overall efficiency of your system. But what if you could eliminate the root cause and avoid costly mitigation measures? Recognizing that the diode-bridge rectifier and PWM output signal are the culprits, SmartD developed the first VFD delivering filterless sine waves (clean in - clean out).
