    D-Wave has been developing annealing quantum computers to tackle optimization for the last 25 years, but the origins of optimization go back much further to ancient farmers planning crop rotations. Optimization is part of a tradition that’s as old as civilization itself. In 1744, Swiss mathematician and physicist Leonhard Euler mentioned that nothing in the world takes place without it. As computer science has advanced, so too has our ability find more efficient solutions to everything from cargo loading at the world’s busiest ports to automobile production scheduling thanks to quantum optimization. #quantumoptimization

    Canada’s Pattison Food Group faced a complex optimization task: streamline workforce scheduling across 58 stores, each with unique labor agreements and dependencies. By working with D-Wave’s professional services team to develop a hybrid quantum optimization solution, the grocery chain was able achieve an 80% reduction in scheduling time and ensure a consistent workforce scheduling process.     We can hardly believe it’s already been one month since our annual #Qubits24 conference. We asked Murray Thom, D-Wave's VP of quantum technology evangelism and emcee of the event, to reflect on what he felt were the highlights biggest takeaways. This year’s conference spanned commercial quantum computing adoption through to the latest product and scientific breakthroughs that are helping drive performance improvements for customers. We demonstrated “Success Powered by Quantum” by spotlighting stories from customers like Los Alamos National Laboratory and Pattison Food Group, who achieved research advancements and optimization ROI through their use of our annealing quantum technology.
