Summer has finally arrived at #AVLFCC – perfect timing for our annual pancake breakfast, cooked and catered by our very own management team. This year, Aaron Pulskamp and Arka Dutta were appointed heads of Griddle Operations, while Amy Nelson took up the role of Director, Secret Homemade Pancake Mixes. From the broad smiles and full bellies in the photos, you'll be pleased to hear they've passed their probation periods! 🥞🌭

🤔 Does anyone really believe one-size-fits-all? Not when you are looking for the most advanced fuel cell technology available today -- to power emerging applications in aviation and mobility, including drones, boats, trains, and trucks. AVLFCC’s next-generation stack platform delivers industry-leading efficiency in a compact, single-cell-row design. It also utilizes the most durable materials on the market today. This technology is for you if you’re looking for customized stack solutions and know—sometimes from painful experience—that off-the-shelf stack products won’t meet your specific technical and configuration requirements. You also know your competitive edge lies in your ability to customize your product’s power solution. Let’s talk about your project, our technology, and how we can support your development programs. #DYK women make up 33% of AVLFCC's workforce? As an engineering company that develops custom fuel cell stack solutions for other engineering organizations, this representation is something we're really proud of. Today is International Women in Engineering Day (#INWED), which exists to promote the amazing work of women engineers around the world. Why? Because women engineers are still hugely under-represented. That includes here in Canada, where Engineers Canada estimates women represent only about 15% of all licensed engineers. We want to draw attention to this statistic, for sure. But for us, women in engineering goes beyond the P.Eng. designation. Our women-in-engineering colleagues, photographed below, are not all engineers. But every one of them makes the engineering we do here at #AVLFCC possible. So please take a moment today—every day would be better—to talk to young women and girls about the amazing women in engineering you know. Showcase their projects. Tell stories about what women engineers have built. Describe women in leadership roles in engineering companies. Facilitate introductions and conversations. Because we all benefit when more young women and girls decide to work in engineering, too! #INWED2024 #InternationalWomenInEngineeringDay #WomenInSTEM #enhancedbyengineering #engineering #fuelcells #hydrogen

Sascha Mielke, Dipl.-Ing., PMP was on the road last week representing #AVLFCC at the #ACTExpo in Las Vegas. The event brings together companies united in their efforts to reduce emissions across the transportation sector. Many of the heavy-duty truck OEMs presented fuel cell models at the show, as did many smaller companies who are now integrating fuel cells into their product lines. “At AVLFCC, we’re very in the weeds with the fuel cell stack itself, and never really get to see the finished product integrated in a vehicle. Having the chance to see so many of them at the Expo from so many different companies was exciting!” Hard work pays off! #zeroemissions #cleanenergy #H2now #ACTExpo #ontheroad

🎉 We are excited to report our second-generation PEM fuel cell stack platform is now in test at our Burnaby lab! 🎉 We developed it in direct response to market demand for significantly increased power density to support the use of hydrogen and fuel cells in high-performance mobility and aviation applications. This new stack gives #AVLFCC and our customers - as well as our colleagues in other #AVL locations - a mature starting point for customized fuel cell system designs requiring the most advanced fuel cell technology available today. And it's a key part of the recently announced collaboration between AVL and Red Bull Advanced Technologies. The AVLFCC team is excited to be supporting this partnership! 🙌 #reimaginingmotion #accelerateH2 #hydrogen #hydrogenracing #redbull #F1technologies #collaboration #fuelcellaviation #fuelcellracing

Congratulations to Phil Tang who is marking 25 years in the fuel cell industry today – what an achievement! Phil enjoyed successful stints at Ballard and AFCC, before joining #AVL’s engineering team back in 2018. During his 25 years in the industry, Phil has experienced the evolution of B.C.’s global reputation for hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. “I've been fortunate to live and work in a fuel cell hub, so despite moving between local fuel cell companies, colleagues remain good friends and we often cross paths again,” he says. “It's these personal connections that have made working in the fuel cell industry so enjoyable and fulfilling.” An example of the close bond he’s felt between colleagues is a memory from his first day in the industry, when he was invited by a co-worker to join their weekly hockey session. Pulling on his gear, Phil was nervous, as he had never played hockey before. But thanks to that introduction, it sparked a new passion, and he still plays to this day. He hopes his streak playing hockey can last as long as his career in fuel cells! #anniversary #AVLFCC #congratulations #fuelcells

Could hydrogen-powered #fuelcell drones be the future? If you're an amateur drone pilot, you'll know that most drones are powered by batteries, making them easy to fly and recharge. But batteries are also limiting for drones, as they are too heavy to support longer flight operations. Fuel cells could provide a solution for manufacturers looking to maximize the time that heavy-duty drones can stay airborne. Fuel cells are similar to batteries – zero emissions, electric drives, and relatively quiet – but they can be significantly lighter than batteries, allowing for longer flights. At #AVLFCC, we are exploring opportunities to design fuel cell stacks for bigger, heavy-duty drones that require kW-sized onboard power sources. We have the technical knowledge to custom-engineer drone stacks with a high gravimetric power density that could be air-cooled, instead of liquid-cooled like traditional automotive stacks. A stack with those properties would provide a simple, robust and light power source for larger drones. Where do you see fuel cell #drones fitting in the future of hydrogen applications? Let us know in the comments. 👇 #cleanenergy #H2now #hydrogen #zeroemissions #accelerateH2 #dronepilots
