This extensive study is one of the largest clinical investigations into ocular blood flow among glaucoma patients, including those with normal-tension glaucoma (NTG). Jan's work underscores that while traditionally the main focus for treating glaucoma has been on lowering intraocular pressure (IOP), vascular conditions like hypertension also play a significant role in glaucoma progression. He explores how changes in vascular structure, blood pressure, and microvascular endothelial function can serve as key indicators for diagnosing and treating glaucoma. Jan aims to create a clinical risk assessment tool that encompasses all facets of #glaucoma, ultimately aiming to personalise treatment for each patient. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e-VZMwrC

Quarries, even when still in use, can provide added value for recreation, nature and water buffering. The Sibelco sand quarry Donk has undergone a major metamorphosis as part of the KlimaatPlassen demo space within the Blue Deal project Flanders WaterProof, a project led by VITO. In this demo space, VITO, Sibelco, the governor of the province of Antwerp, Pipda, the Flemish government and more partners are working together to find smart solutions for water buffering in this part of the Kempen region. 🤩 Happy to announce that VITO spin-off Blue Foot Membranes NV has successfully completed a €15 million funding round. This includes a €10 million growth stage round secured in December 2023, led by Circular Innovation Fund (CIF), managed by Demeter and Cycle Capital, with participation from existing investors Qbic Fund | Venture Capital, LRM, and VITO. 👨💼 Bart Swaelens, investment manager at VITO: "Since 2005, experts at VITO have been looking for a solution to purify wastewater through a membrane that also reliably stops micro-organisms and waste particles. This solution consists of a 3D coating that makes the membrane unbreakable. In 2017, the spin-off Blue Foot Membranes was launched with the aim of bringing this patented technology to the market. A mission that succeeded and which also convinced VITO to further co-invest in this project through our investment fund Clean Vision Invest." Want to know more? Last week our #membranetechnology expert Buekenhoudt Anita gave a plenary lecture at ICIM (International Conference on Inorganic Membranes), titled: ‘Grafting of ceramic membranes: boosting applications in liquid filtration’.   Anita: “I’m proud to have been able to share the groundbreaking work we do on ceramic membranes at VITO. I highlighted the strength of grafting membranes leading to anti-fouling properties, and to improved performance in solvents, as demonstrated up to pilot scale in a multitude of projects.
