Visiting Northern Lights, discovering the project. ✨ Last Thursday, alongside a group of Belgian industrial partners, we, at Fluxys, had the opportunity of visiting Northern Lights JV, a Carbon Storage project in Norway. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) will play a vital role in our efforts to decarbonise the Belgian industry. By capturing and storing carbon emissions, we can help to reduce our carbon footprint and move toward a more sustainable future. Northern Lights, a collaboration between Equinor, Shell, and TotalEnergies, represents a groundbreaking initiative in CO2 storage, aiming to achieve an annual storage capacity of 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 in its initial phase. Handover ceremony: together for low-carbon value chains. 🤝🚀     During today's handover ceremony held in Oslo and in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid, representatives from key industrial stakeholders, Pascal De Buck, Geert Van Poelvoorde, Cedric de Vicq and Jacques Vandermeiren, formally presented the Oslo declaration on low-carbon value chains to Belgian policy makers, Minister-President of Flanders Jan Jambon, Walloon Minister of Energy Philippe Henry, Brussels state secretary Ans Persoons, Minister of Energy Tinne Van der Straeten, Minister of Justice Paul Van Tigchelt and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib. 📜     As we work toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, overcoming decarbonisation challenges while maintaining international competitiveness is crucial for industry. Carbon Capture, Transport, Usage and Storage (CCUS), aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions by capturing emissions from sources like industrial processes and power plants, will play a critical role in meeting this challenge.      Industry's flagship decarbonisation projects drive economic growth and employment, but targeted policy instruments at all levels are essential for their realisation in Belgium. Collaboration among all stakeholders is vital to succeed. 🇧🇪 Belgian Economic Mission to Norway 🇳🇴 This week, the Belgian Economic Mission to Norway takes place, presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid and organized by the Belgian Foreign Trade Agency (BFTA) in close cooperation with Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT), AWEX and hub.brussels. A central theme of this mission is the energy transition. Norway and Belgium share a longstanding history dating back to the 1970s, with Norway playing a crucial role in Belgium and North-West Europe's energy supply through the Zeepipe gas pipeline. Looking ahead, Norway will also play a pivotal role in Belgium’s, and by extension, Europe’s energy transition by storing CO2 captured from industry in North-West Europe. 🌿🌍 Royal visit 👑: Last month, we had the honour of welcoming Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid to the Zeebrugge terminal in preparation for this princely economic mission.
