🚀 Milestone Achieved: 700,000 Public Recharging Points in the EU! 🌍🔌 We are thrilled to announce that the EU has surpassed 700,000 public recharging points, marking a significant achievement in our journey towards a sustainable and green future. This growth is a testament to our collective efforts in accelerating the adoption of EVs across Europe. 🔋 The latest data shows a steady increase in both AC and DC recharging points, ensuring better coverage and convenience for EV drivers. As of Q1 2024, the number of public recharging points has more than tripled since 2020, reflecting the rapid development of our EV infrastructure. 🌟 Key Highlights: ✅Consistent growth in AC recharging points, providing reliable and accessible charging options. 630.113 AC recharging points as of June 2024. ✅Significant expansion in DC recharging points, reducing charging times and enhancing user experience. 103.028 DC recharging points as of June 2024. 🇪🇺 Europeans are generally positive towards e-mobility 🚗⚡ Lieselot Vanhaverbeke head of our Electric & Autonomous Vehicles research Group and Joeri Van Mierlo, head of MOBI, presented key insights from the EAFO (European Alternative Fuels Observatory) Consumer Survey 2023 webinar today with the help of Dennis Verbist & Gabriela Barrera. Europeans show a positive attitude towards e-mobility, with 57% of non-electric car drivers considering an electric car in the future despite cost concerns. The survey of over 19,000 respondents revealed that climate benefits and cost efficiency are major advantages, but price and recharging infrastructure remain significant barriers. Key insights from the survey: - Positive Attitude: 57% of non-electric car drivers are considering purchasing an electric car in the future. - Survey Size: Over 19,000 respondents from twelve EU Member States. Range Preferences: Non-BEV drivers want a range of at least 500 km, while - 80% of BEV drivers find 201-400 km sufficient. - Price Barrier: Nearly two-thirds of all respondents cite price as a major obstacle. - Purchase Intentions: One-third plan to buy an electric car within five years. Travel Abroad: 40% of BEV drivers have traveled abroad multiple times with their BEV. - V2G Awareness: Nearly half of BEV drivers are aware of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies, with 68% interested in buying a V2G-enabled vehicle. 🌍🔋 European EV fleets per Public Recharging Infrastructure: A Regional Analysis As we drive towards a sustainable future, understanding the ratio of light-duty electric vehicle (EV) fleets to public recharging points across Europe is crucial. Our latest analysis reveals significant regional disparities, emphasizing the importance of expanding public charging infrastructure in line with EV adoption rates. 📈 Key Insights: Norway & Iceland: High EV penetration with ratios indicating a need for continued infrastructure expansion. In these countries private recharging is more dominant. Western Europe: The Netherlands excels with balanced growth between EVs and public charging, while Germany and the UK need more recharging points to keep pace. Noteworthy, that Germany demonstrates a high total power output power per recharging point, while the Netherlands relatively low. Southern & Eastern Europe: Rapid EV growth highlights the urgent need for public charging infrastructure expansion in countries like Poland, Portugal, and Romania. Emerging Markets: Malta and Turkey show a substantial gap between EV adoption and public recharging infrastructure. New Insights on EU's EV Charging Infrastructure 🚗⚡ A recent European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) report, prepared on the basis of data from the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO), emphasizes the need for an expansion of the EU’s EV charging infrastructure. The study estimates, approximately 410,000 new charging points shall be installed annually to meet the 2030 targets. Currently, three countries (The Netherlands, Germany, France) house almost two-thirds of these points, highlighting a significant geographical disparity. The study calls for the swift implementation of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) to enhance public charging networks and support the EU's carbon reduction goals.
