In order to achieve the 2050 #GreenDeal goals, the #chemicalindustry must transform not only how we produce but also what we produce 🌍. This entails continuing our journey towards a twin transition: going climate neutral, circular, digital, and shifting towards products that are safe-and-sustainable by design ♻️. https://lnkd.in/e9GNSz-f It has been approximately 18 months since the Transition Pathway for the chemical industry was published by the European Commission. What is the status? Here are the key updates: 🤝 The co-implementation process is in progress 🔭 EU Business has published 112 transition initiatives 🛣️ Six national transition pathways have been released 📜 The first #TransitionPathway progress report is published Moreover, the broad support for the Antwerp Declaration reiterates the industry’s dedication to the EU #GreenDeal, aiming for a sustainable and competitive European industrial sector. #IndustrialDeal #AntwerpDeclaration

The numbers in the latest #chemicaltrends report for the first quarter of 2024 are encouraging… 🧮 Read online: https://lnkd.in/ergGQkEZ 📈 Output in was 1.8% higher than in Q4-2023 📊 Small increase of capacity utilisation from 74.4% in Q3-2023 to 75.5% 🧮 The EU27 chemicals trade surplus reached the highest value since Q1 2022 (€14.8 bn) …yet should be taken with a grain of salt 🧂, given that their benchmark is 2023: a year where production was still far below pre-COVID levels. A huge thank you to everyone who attended the Cefic & RE-Source Platform webinar on Procuring Renewable Energy with Power Purchase Agreements!🙌 Access to renewable energy is vital for the chemical industry to meet climate targets, reduce carbon emissions, and stay competitive. Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) offer a practical pathway for companies to access clean energy and get closer to achieving these goals. During the webinar, we explored the steps to sign a PPA and learned valuable insights from chemical companies’ experiences. 🌍 Special thanks to our speakers Christian Essers, Vice President Global Energy Procurement, Wacker Chemie AG; Patrick Hermann, Senior Sales Origination, Statkraft; Merijn Voeten, Renewable Energy Manager Europe, LyondellBasell; Nicolai Romanowski, Energy Manager, Cefic and Annie Scanlan, Policy & Impact Director, RE-Source. Stay tuned for more events as we continue to support the chemical sector in its journey towards energy decarbonisation. 💡🌱 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eQ_upeET #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #ChemicalIndustry #GreenDeal
