👁 Check out the highlights from the BEDA Design Forum 'Cool Europe - by Design'. ✨ Our Design Forum took place on 30 May at the Design Museum Brussels, bringing together professionals from Europe to discuss the creative sector's current challenges and look for solutions. We had speakers and participants from different fields of the design sector - from practising designers and design organisations to EU-level institutions. In opening words, 🗣Christina Melander, BEDA President (DDC – Danish Design Center) emphasised that despite the challenges and crises we face, fostering enthusiasm, optimism, and a focus on potential is essential for designing a meaningful and valuable future driven by creativity and courage. 🗣Lisa Lang (Culture and Creative Industries (CCI) Taskforce UN Climate Change Global Innovation Hub.) and 🗣Ambra Trotto (EIT Culture & Creativity) discussed the integration and recognition of design within international and European programmes and ambitions, highlighting how design can facilitate clear, targeted missions. 🗣Dr Felix Kosok (World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026) under the motto #DesignforDemocracy, emphasized how to design our lives through sustainable and participatory means through different fields of action, such as work, construction & housing, education, health, consumption and more. 🗣Gaile Sakalaite (EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office) and 🗣Iiris Adenius (Ornamo Art and Design Finland) discussed the evolution and potential challenges of intellectual property laws for design. Gaile noted that the IP laws now protect also designs generated by AI under specific criteria. 🗣Gareth Broadbent (True Life Story) highlighted the power of design in addressing global challenges. The #SACCORD focuses on developing designers' skills and promoting lifelong learning and was presented by 🗣Isabelle Vérilhac (APCI - Promotion du design) and 🗣Dimitris Kaboukos BEDA - The Bureau of European Design Associations. 🗣Audronė Drungilaitė (VDA Dizaino inovacijų centras) shared the Design Wings project connecting young designers with companies. 🗣Laure Capitani (Wallonie-Bruxelles Design Mode (WBDM)) introduced the Belgium is Design initiative that promotes Belgian creative minds. 👉 ‘Cool Europe’ - Connectivity, optimism, openness, and longevity in design 👈 🌍 The BEDA Design Forum took place on June 30 at the Design Museum Brussels, bringing together European professionals to discuss the sector's current challenges and propose constructive solutions. 🚀 Lisa Lang and Ambra Trotto spoke about the integration and recognition of design within the programs and ambitions of international and European institutions. Gaile Sakalaite and Iiris Adenius discussed the evolution of intellectual property laws to benefit design. 🎤 Other topics included: - Design and creativity in campaigns to raise awareness of the climate crisis by Gareth Broadbent, - Accelerating the skills of designers (SACCORD - The European Skills Accord project) with Isabelle Vérilhac and Dimitris Kaboukos. - The World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 initiative under the motto "Design for Democracy" by Felix Kosok. - Initiatives to support designers and integrate design, presented by Audronė Drungilaitė and Laure Capitani.
