World-leading enviro tech company creating solutions to address climate change and food security | SeaFeed™

About us

Sea Forest Limited is a science-based environmental technology company harnessing the power of Australian seaweed Asparagopsis, and replicating its bioactives, to drive sustainable long-term solutions to the challenges of climate change and global food security. The Sea Forest team is dedicated to fighting climate change by being the first in the world to cultivate Asparagopsis at a commercial scale and producing SeaFeed™ livestock supplement. Our scientists have now replicated the bioactives found naturally in this seaweed. Composed of industry’s best scientists, the Sea Forest team is producing the highest methane abating supplement in the world by using the most effective production facilities and methodologies. Sea Forest is now producing more SeaFeed™ than ever, and as our farming, manufacturing and production operations continue to grow, so too will our positive impact on the planet. Sea Forest’s SeaFeed™ supplement is in commercial use with primary producers. The company is also collaborating with major consumer brands to bring products to market and educate consumers. The company’s solution is backed by more than 30 peer reviewed studies and is supported by a network of research partnerships with leading universities. Sea Forest is a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact on sustainability. Through the nonprofit Sea Forest Foundation, we work with the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies at the University of Tasmania to restore Tasmania’s endangered native giant kelp forests.

    – Appreciation Post – We're so lucky getting to work alongside a true Tasmanian legend. Words like "unique" and "special" get thrown around too often nowadays, but they describe you perfectly. Through your quiet dedication, and consistent work ethic, you inspire us to do our best work. You're a beacon of hope, not just to your colleagues, but the entire planet. Working with you is a huge part of what makes Sea Forest so bloody exciting. We've learnt a lot from you over the past five years, and we know you've got plenty more to give. Simply put, we wouldn't be here without you. Please put your hands together and join us in thanking the raddest, reddest seaweed we know, Asparagopsis.

We're positively chuffed to announce our exclusive partnership with Morrisons, the 125-year-old chain of supermarkets in the UK, helping them fast track lower carbon beef products in their stores.   Working with Morrisons manufacturing arm, we'll be supplying SeaFeed™, our methane-busting livestock feed, to help speed up the introduction of lower carbon products like mince, burgers and steaks in Morrisons 500 supermarkets and 1,600 convenience stores.   “As British farming's biggest direct customer, we're well placed to support the farmers we work with and help them farm more sustainably," said Sophie Throup, FRASE Technical and Sustainability Director for Morrisons manufacturing arm. "This partnership supports our ambition to have net zero agriculture emissions by 2030."   The latest step in an innovative research programme by Morrisons and Queen's University Belfast, Professor Sharon Huws, Director of Research, Queen's University Belfast, School of Biological Sciences and Institute for Global Food Security (IGF) said: “We are delighted to be working closely with Morrisons and Sea Forest to provide the scientific evidence underpinning the journey towards net zero in the Morrisons beef chain. Innovation is at the centre of the IGFS ethos, and this collaboration is an important example of how our research translates into impact for the sector, and indeed for the health of our planet."
Getting to work with one of the most respected retailers and food producers in the UK is another proper milestone for Sea Forest.   After trials with beef, dairy and wool producers across Australia and New Zealand, we're absolutely cock-a-hoop (our new fave English term) to partner with Morrisons and start making a meaningful impact on an international scale.

The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea. That sentence was written over 90 years ago, by Danish author Isak Dinesen, and it still rings true today. Especially for us as farmers of a native Australian seaweed with the supernatural power of cutting methane emissions in livestock, almost entirely.   While it's under increasing pressure, the ocean has given us an incredible solution, which we've learnt to harness. Now we're helping pioneering businesses, farms, and supply chains tap into a new and prosperous economy, driven by making the world a better place. One of those dairy farms is Ashgrove Cheese, who we collaborated with to make the world's first climate-friendly milk. Eco-Milk produces way less carbon per litre, meaning dairy farmers can continue their traditional ways of making a living, while having a positive impact on the planet. So now (if you live in Tassie) you can change your milk and help change the world. Available at Woolworths Supermarkets, Hill Street Grocer, Salamanca Fresh, and IGA Supermarkets stores across Tasmania. ------------------------------ Want a low-emission milk option in mainland Australia? Share this post and let's get more dairy farms on our SeaFeed program.

There's a Welsh proverb, "Deuparth gwaith yw ei ddechrau," which translates to, "Starting the work is two-thirds of it." This old saying was brought to life today as we gathered in Cardiff to witness the exciting potential seaweed can play in developing economic, ecological, and environmental opportunities both here and around the world. It's always energising talking shop with other innovators in the seaweed space like High Tide Seaweed and fellow The Earthshot Prize finalists like Notpla. Now the work's started and the solutions are gaining traction thanks to the ongoing support of The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, there's huge potential. And Sea Forest is happy to have a seat at the table, proudly representing Australian innovation.

What's the connection between boxed wine, solar panels, wi-fi and native red seaweed? Find out the answer on 27 June, when we head to Canberra to talk about "a more innovative economy" at Parliament House, alongside a couple of experts from CSIRO and Aurecon. Thanks to CEDA - Committee for Economic Development of Australia and Anthony Albanese for the invitation. To attend or for more info: https://lnkd.in/g2EYJ-2Y

The science behind Sea Forest is the engine of our business, but it's not the heart of it. The fact this native red seaweed holds the power to combat climate change at scale is fascinating, so it's understandable people want to know more about how it works. But there's another part of the Sea Forest story (the bit that starts with a bearded bloke and his father-in-law on a lounge watching the telly) which is why it exists. This short film by Johnny Abegg is a couple of years old, but it does a stellar job of parking the science to one side and focusing on the personal motivations that drove Sam Elsom to set off on this crazy adventure. A worthy 5min 55sec distraction, particularly if you're thinking about chucking it all in, starting a fresh career, and stopping the world from going up in flames. https://lnkd.in/g5DBV2Ff
