I have been in a few workplaces where people were openly penalised for making mistakes. 🚨 🚨 🚨 I'm sure you have as well. Working in an environment where mistakes are penalised is never enjoyable. It not only hampers the learning process but also inhibits the team from exploring new horizons. Such a negative culture from leadership can be a significant barrier to growth. 🛑 Stop Penalising Mistakes! This week, I learned from Daisy Wong that great culture turns mistakes into powerful learning moments. In the latest episode of Future Secured, Daisy Wong, Security Culture and Awareness Lead at Flybuys (at the time of recording), chatted with Jason Murrell and me, Tom Finnigan, about using storytelling and case studies to drive behavioural change. Daisy shared so many great tips, but these quotes jumped out at me and I wanted to share them with you here. 🎙 "Deleting protects you; reporting protects us all! 🎙 "Closing the loop in training and fostering a positive, educational environment is crucial. 🎙 "It's not about penalising mistakes, but about educating and empowering your team to recognise and report threats." Watch the full episode to hear all of Daisy's amazing stories and tips on cyberculture - https://lnkd.in/gEU92YJv Also, Daisy is speaking at the upcoming Corinium Global Intelligence CISO Melbourne event on 16-17 July. As an added bonus, MurFin Group Co-Founder Jason Murrell is hosting day two, and I will be attending filming on-camera interviews and some of the speeches. So, please come over and say hello. P.S. I made the clip's background pink in honour of your favourite colour, Daisy Wong. Talking Brands.ai #CISOMELBOURNE #CyberSecurity #Training #Leadership #Engagement #Flybuys #MurfinGroup

In some breaking news reported on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) by Journalist Andrew Greene..... "Under the formal instructions it will now also be mandatory for the Commonwealth's almost 200 entities and companies to share cyber threat information with the Australian Signals Directorate. "The three Protective Service Policy Framework (PSPF) directives are believed to be only the second time the binding powers have been used, with the first involving last year's ban of Chinese-owned application TikTok from Commonwealth devices. "Government entities are told to "implement a process when undertaking procurement of technology assets to identify and manage potential FOCI risks" before June next year. "In the second directive Ms Foster orders "a technology asset stocktake on all internet-facing systems or services to identify all technology assets managed by, or on behalf of, the entity". "Additionally, Commonwealth entities are directed to "develop a technology security risk management plan for all internet-facing systems or services, as part of the entity's overall security plan". "According to the third directive it will now also be mandatory for all "Australian government entities using threat intelligence sharing platforms to share cyber threat information with the Australian Signals Directorate"." 💻 I've been through a lot of cyber security training over the years, and if I'm honest, most of it hasn't really landed. It's often delivered in a way that doesn't engage me or encourage new behaviours, so I've ticked the box and moved on. 🎙 For the latest episode of Future Secured, Jason Murrell and I chatted with special guest Nigel Hedges, CISO at Chemist Warehouse. 🎧 Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gRmuJgjB As we started the interview, we discovered that Nigel has a unique approach to creating a strong cyber culture in the workplace. Instead of cramming all the lessons into one or two sessions, he uses various methods, including barbecues, quizzes, briefings, and short videos, to provide multiple touchpoints for learning each month. By investing a little bit of time monthly, he keeps these lessons at the top of his mind across the Chemist Warehouse and is able to create real change. Jump over to the podcast now and you can hear Nigel share all his tips on effective security training. "It's a carrot and stick type of mentality. "At a previous organisation, we had a 90-minute e-compliance module on information security and PCI. "I love this stuff, but even I wanted to punch myself in the face after that training. "Less is more and more often is the approach I prefer." He continued, "These barbecues, tidbits, quizzes, and 2-3 minute videos about cyber security, maybe with one question quizzes, are easier to do monthly. "It's a five-minute investment per month, versus one-time 90-minute droll training. "It's constantly on their minds. "They remember not to click on suspicious links from a few months ago because they recall the training." Check out the full episode of Future Secured with Nigel Hedges, and you will get some great ideas on how to transform your cyber security training approach. 🎧 Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gRmuJgjB Take the Cyber Security Leader PR & Media Quiz: https://lnkd.in/g69M44jR Please share any thoughts you have below. 🚨 Expert Tips to Build Your LinkedIn Profile 🚨 Today I wanted to share some valuable tips to help you elevate your LinkedIn profile. 👉 Skip the post and take the LinkedIn Scorecard - https://lnkd.in/gYQ7bXg4 💡 Personal Branding Matters 🍎 Who do you think has more followers on social media, Apple, the brand, or Tim Cook, the CEO? ❓If you guessed Tim Cook, you'd be right. We are naturally more attracted to people over brands. That's why Tim Cook has significantly more followers than the Apple brand. People want to know what he says and hear from him personally. This really highlights the importance of building a personal brand profile. 👉 Tip 1: Analyse Your LinkedIn Data Have you ever analysed your LinkedIn data? If not, now is the time to start. Download your LinkedIn data, including your posts, engagements, and other metrics. Then, use a tool like GPT-4 to analyse this data. Identify high-performing and low-performing content to understand what resonates with your audience. This will help you focus your messaging more effectively. 👉 Tip 2: Understand Your Audience Do you truly understand your audience? By regularly analysing your LinkedIn data, you'll gain insights into what content your community engages with the most. Use these insights to craft more messages around the topics that resonate with your audience. Continuously reviewing the data will help you hone your content to meet your audience's needs. 👉 Tip 3: Use Unique Analogies to tell a story Engage your community with unique analogies. Common analogies, like comparing cyber security to locking your house, are good but often overused. Find personal and unique analogies that resonate more deeply with your audience. Additionally, join LinkedIn groups and follow influencers in your field. Observe what they are doing successfully and adapt those strategies to your own voice and style. 👉 Bonus Tip: Take the Scorecard - https://lnkd.in/gYQ7bXg4 💯 I've created a scorecard specifically for executives like you to help you rate your LinkedIn efforts. It's a quick tool, only 13 questions long, that takes just a few minutes to complete. It will provide you with a score and a detailed report, highlighting areas where you're doing well and where you can improve. I hope these tips help you build a more engaging LinkedIn profile. If you post something using these tips, please tag MurFin Group or me, Tom Finnigan. I'd love to see and engage with your content. Have a wonderful day! #Leadership #Branding #Networking #Marketing #LinkedIn
