This fashion and beauty issue is proudly sponsored by Dove – and the first time we've had an exclusive presenting partner since launching digital issues in December 2023. Dove, a pioneer in challenging unrealistic beauty standards, naturally aligns with the incredible stories within this issue. Read more: https://lnkd.in/geMtWwkv

Broadsheet and Intrepid Travel have teamed up to launch Broadsheet Local Time – a hub within our travel content vertical dedicated to international and domestic exploration. This partnership marks our biggest foray into international travel content to date with Broadsheet Australia editor Nick Connellan, creative solutions manager James Williams, and other members of the Broadsheet team travelling on Intrepid trips to India, Japan, Italy, Morocco, Peru and Tasmania. Each destination will feature supporting articles and social videos capturing what these destinations have to offer through a local lens. The Local Time hub will be evergreen, allowing for opportunities to collaborate with Intrepid and other tourism bodies in discovering new countries and experiences. Group sales and partnerships manager, Matt Phillips, said Broadsheet's audience consistently requests more international travel content, making it a top priority. "Partnering with global leader, Intrepid to establish an entirely new destination on Broadsheet, focusing on international exploration, is incredibly exciting," he said. Expanding our partnership with Intrepid allows us to highlight the impact that travel has on the global economy and uncover the best local experiences that can only be accessed through Intrepid.” You can read more here - https://lnkd.in/er2GwFNC

Broadsheet has appointed Nick Connellan to the newly created role of Australia editor, to run the daily operations of the editorial team and contribute to the strategic direction of Australian content. Connellan will continue reporting to editorial director Katya Wachtel when she returns from maternity leave, while managing the team’s editors. “For the past decade, Broadsheet and Nick have grown together. There are not many people that understand Australian culture as well as him,” said Nick Shelton, Broadsheet’s founder and publisher. “Combined with his deep knowledge of our audience and brand, I cannot imagine anyone better suited to lead Broadsheet’s editorial output”. Connellan has been with the company since 2015. He joined as Broadsheet’s first directory editor, maintaining several thousand venue listings across the country and spearheading the launch of Broadsheet Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Later, he co-hosted the Around Town podcast, managed quarterly print papers in Melbourne and Sydney, and edited hardcover books: The Broadsheet Italian Cookbook, Home Made and Travels. Connellan said: “My time at Broadsheet has always been characterised by new challenges, and this is the most exciting, ambitious one yet.”

Does the revival of an iconic ‘90s gig spot offer renewed hope for the live music industry in Melbourne? 22 years after calling last drinks, The Punters Club announced it will reopen next month. Known for sticky carpets, unhinged gigs and a dog-friendly front bar, the legendary Fitzroy venue is coming back for more – with a new group of owners (including some Marquis of Lorne alumni and an Aussie rock veteran), a jukebox full of era-defining hits, and plenty of excitement from local gen X and elder millennial music fans. While there's been a lot of doom and gloom around restaurants lately, there’s also plenty to celebrate. This week, Broadsheet selected the best new restaurants of the year (so far). From a Filipino restaurant by a chef with serious fine-dining cred to a revamped old boozer (with an essential house Martini) and a neighbourhood canteen from a chef who worked under Ruth Rogers at The River Cafe in London. Are we witnessing a watershed moment for Australian hospitality workplace culture? Instagram accounts have recently launched in Melbourne and Sydney calling out alleged perpetrators of sexual harassment and/or assault by name, despite the risk of defamation. And in Adelaide, sexologist and hospo vet Jamie Alexandra Bucirde has published an academic report on misbehaviour in the city's venues, which she's using to lobby for industry reform. The report builds on her 2022 website and Instagram account, @notsohospitable, which empowered people to anonymously share their stories. She received 56 responses in the first 17 hours. Broadsheet sat down with Bucirde to talk about her report, and how patrons, media and the government can do more to help make hospo safer. Read the full article, with words by Lucy Bell Bird: https://lnkd.in/gKHXY9Zq Credit: Bucirde et al. How can we keep social audiences engaged? Broadsheet’s Head of Social Media, Stephanie Vigilante was recently one of 25 guest speakers invited to share their insights at this year’s Content Summit Australia, joining a panel titled “Always on: How to keep your social audience engaged and coming back for more”. Stephanie chatted with Brittanie English from The Content Division, Kic App’s Alice Harris and Urban Utilities Rose Misra-Smith about everything from the evolution of platforms (like how Instagram has become a major traffic driver) and Broadsheet’s approach to staying ahead and being early adopters on content formats: presence first and solidifying strategy later. Broadsheet founder and publisher Nick Shelton has penned an opinion piece for the The Australian Financial Review on how global digital platforms have failed us and now is the time for decisive government action to safeguard Australia’s democratic values and prevent these platforms from further eroding the information and media landscape. "A sustainable, independent, and well-resourced media industry is a vital participant in our town squares and for a healthy democratic society. Without it, the delicate balance in our communities tilts dangerously towards chaos." https://lnkd.in/dK2bWY7N
