#Rust is particularly well-suited for creating system-level programs where safety and speed are essential 🔒🏎️ By enforcing strict guarantees about the code, it becomes possible to write fearlessly on a level traditionally beset with easy-to-make, hard-to-spot mistakes 🙌 Given Rust's uniqueness, our colleague Thomas Grem dedicated an internal Brainfood Session to it. These sessions allow us to share knowledge and enhance our presentation skills 🚀 Thomas began by introducing Rust’s fundamental concepts, covering data types, ownership, borrowing, and lifetimes. This provided a solid foundation for understanding Rust's distinctive features. Our colleagues then had the chance to get some hands-on experience 👨🏻💻 Together they explored the newly introduced concepts, applying them to a simple problem to experience Rust’s safety and correctness firsthand. The grand finale showcased Rust’s real-world applicability. Thomas demonstrated a REST server using a modern web framework, optimized runtime, ORM mapper, and the in-built testing framework. The SQUER AI Hackathon: A Day of Thrilling Sessions and Valuable Learnings 💡🚀 At SQUER, continuous learning is at the core of our values. Each employee has an annual training budget of 5,000 euros, which we consider just the beginning. Given our team’s impressive expertise, we prioritize internal learning formats where colleagues share insights on their core topics and facilitate hands-on engagement 🙌👩🏻💻 And we allocate dedicated time for collective learning, ensuring everyone can enhance their skills without project interruptions. Last week, we held one of these special training days, focusing on AI. We presented various challenges, selecting three main topics for intensive focus throughout the day: 1. Neural Networks: In the first session, our colleague Rigers Ura led the development of a neural network for optical character recognition. Participants trained and applied the neural network, gaining practical experience with fundamental machine learning principles. 2. Large Language Models (LLMs): The second session delved into Large Language Models, particularly ChatGPT. Martin Treiber, AI consultant and Co-Founder of IKANGAI Solutions, guided our team through the facets of ChatGPT, including Custom GPT and Assistant functionalities. Participants leveraged this knowledge to create a Code Review Assistant, enhancing their practical understanding of LLM applications. 3. CV Screening with AWS AI: In the third session, co-founder Łukasz Juszczyk challenged our colleagues to integrate several AWS AI solutions to create a CV screener. This tool was designed to learn from our job application history, identifying patterns in favored and rejected CVs, with the goal of developing a system that efficiently assesses new CVs to determine candidate potential. The AI Hackathon was a fantastic day of learning and collaboration. The first Meetup at SQUER’s new home in Munich AND Kubernetes’ 10th birthday! 🥳🎈🎉 Exactly one month ago, we invited the “Munich Kubernetes/Cloud Native Meetup Group” to our brand-new office space at the House of Communication in Munich. A wonderful evening in a great atmosphere with two fantastic presentations! 🤗 A big thank you to Mario Fahlandt for his exciting “view into Kubernetes’ inner workings.” Mario explained how the SIG (Special Interest Group) for Kubernetes Infra works, collaborates, and how everyone can simply contribute to make an impact on the Kubernetes ecosystem and the CNCF community overall 🚀 Afterward, David Leitner, one of our co-founders, took the stage and talked about “Containerless Kubernetes in a Multi-Cloud World,” discussing how Distroless images and WebAssembly offer lightweight solutions for multi-cloud strategies. SQUER embraces personal growth 🚀 and celebrates summer 🌞 ⛱ Last Friday, even the heatwave couldn't stop us; on the contrary, it provided the perfect ambiance for our midsummer event 🤩 And since this day was all about 💙ing our SQUERies for their unique dedication and community spirit, we started it with a workshop about how we can all grow together at SQUER 🪴🎯 To achieve this, Christoph Havlicek put a lot of thought into how we could explore the different options to grow at SQUER in a two-hour session. Together, we focused on two questions: 1. How can each one of us grow Best? 2. What is your individual Development North Star?
