Partnership makes the difference! What a great time at IFAT worldwide 2024 in Munich. I really enjoyed the opportunity to: 1️⃣hear insightful talks at the BDE Bundesverband der Deutschen Entsorgungs-, Wasser- und Kreislaufwirtschaft e. V. booth, 2️⃣see many fascinating innovations in recycling and waste management (and people dressed as robots…), 3️⃣ connect with colleagues and partners. The PreZero International booth had the motto: Together from vision to reality. How this transition to a circular economy can look like in practice was showecased by the many success stories with our partners, for example: - Packaging with 100% recycled content with COMPO - Zero Waste with FC Bayern München - Aluminium packaging with 60% recyclate from the yellow bin with TUBEX - Sortable and recyclable combination packaging with DS Smith - Free digital platform for packaging sustainability with Packaging Cockpit GmbH Partnership definitely makes the difference! You want to go from vision to reality as well and would like to see a new project featured next IFAT at our booth? Write us!

Latest Update to our cooperation with PreZero

PreZero Sustainable Packaging | Nachhaltige Verpackungen | Kreislaufwirtschaft

How PreZero SPOT in cooperation with Packaging Cockpit can help you reduce packaging costs   ❓ Does your company consider EPR fees, plastic taxes and other secondary packaging costs when making decisions about its packaging portfolio? If not, there might unused potential!   Obviously, costs should not be the only factor for your decision-making. #Sustainability, feasibility, and customer appeal are undoubtedly very important. Nevertheless, costs are a crucial part of the equation. Especially the costs for #EPR fees, levies and taxes are rising rapidly. Consider a bag of chips put on the market in Germany as an example: In 2022, secondary costs amounted to roughly 0,4 €-Cent per pack. In 2026, they are expected to roughly triple to 1,3 Cent! And this is even excluding an additional plastic tax that is already on the horizon in Germany.   Secondary packaging cost usually depend on the #packaging material and its weight. But how the materials are broken down, how they are priced and how the underlying methodology works can vary a lot from one country to another. As a consequence, getting a good overview can be a real hassle and the right advice on optimizing the packaging design and associated costs can differ widely.   You can find an example of this in the attached infographic. It shows the EPR fees of a common plastic cup consisting of the plastic cup and lid, an aluminum seal and a paper label / sleeve. In a country like Belgium, the EPR costs for 1.000 units will amount to 15,22 €. There, the plastic closure and lid are a mayor cost drivers, while the cost for the aluminum part is negligible. In a country like Poland, EPR costs only amount to 9,39 € per 1.000 packs with the paper sleeve having a comparatively larger cost impact. This confusing situation will only get worse as we get more and more EPR systems with eco-modulation.   Luckily, PreZero SPOT in cooperation with Packaging Cockpit can offer you free assistance.  SPOT allows you to analyze the EPR fees in 20 different countries and shows you costs for plastic taxes in Spain and the UK. We continuously work on integrating even more cost factors into our tool. Alongside SPOT’s features on packaging recyclability and LCA, this cost analysis provides you with a comprehensive overview to make the best decisions for your company’s packaging portfolio.   Please note: The underlying EPR fees are based on research results from Packaging Cockpit GmbH and Circular Analytics. Especially in countries with several providers, the prices shown contain estimates and average values. Prices for individual companies in a market may differ.   💡 Follow me to get all the latest information on PreZero SPOT and how it and other services by PreZero International can help you get ready for the PPWR and reach your packaging sustainability goals.

PreZero Sustainable Packaging | Nachhaltige Verpackungen | Kreislaufwirtschaft

Calculate recyclability in almost all countries in the EU for free.   In this first-deep dive into the features of PreZero SPOT in cooperation with Packaging Cockpit I will focus on recyclability calculation. The new Sustainable Packaging Optimization Tool by PreZero International and Packaging Cockpit GmbH makes it easier than ever before to handle the complexity of all the country-specific particularities and differences in sorting and recycling infrastructure.   But let’s back up a bit. Why is this important? Let me give you an example from my own experience. At PreZero we do a lot of consulting projects on packaging optimization for our sister companies at Schwarz Gruppe and for external customers all across the value chain. One of their primary goals is standardization. Especially in companies that sell their products in many different markets, you really don’t want to design a different packaging for every country. You obviously would very much prefer to design packaging that “works” for many markets at once.   In the past, this meant juggling many different standards. Recyclability in Germany? Check the ZSVR Minimum Standard. Italy? Let’s go check those CONAI guidelines. France? How did COTREP work again? The list goes on...   All this hassle is now gone: 1️⃣ Enter your packaging specification once, 2️⃣ Chose the countries you distribute the packaging in, 3️⃣ At the click of a button, SPOT calculates the country-specific recyclability and will show you the results in an easy-to-understand overview.   PreZero SPOT is based on the standards of the Circular Packaging Design Guidelines of FH Campus Wien and the Packaging Design for Recycling Guideline of the WORLD PACKAGING ORGANIZATION and ECR. Important to know: These guidelines were ranked most highly in a review by JRC, who will be responsible for developing the methodology on how packaging recyclability will be calculated for the #PPWR.   Similar to other standards for recyclability assessment, it takes into account the existence of suitable collection, sorting and recycling streams, the ability of the packaging to be separated and sorted as well as material incompatibilities. Country-specific particularities have been considered so that your recyclability results will be compliant with existing standards in a given country (e.g. ZSVR in Germany) while still allowing for comparison between different countries. Most importantly: It is a true, quantitative recyclability assessment that results in a clear percentage of recyclable material compared to the overall weight.   Currently, this works for 20 European countries. Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland and Romania: We did not forget about you, we’re still working on it! 💪   Follow me to get all the latest information on PreZero SPOT and how it can help you get ready for the PPWR and reach your #packaging #sustainability goals. ❓ Questions?
