A scientific contribution by Christian Schimper, University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt at the Dornbirn-GFC 2024: The Josef Ressel Center “Recovery Strategy of Textiles” (ReSTex) establishes new process designs for recycling of Cotton and PET blended textiles materials. In a cooperation of the Biotech Campus of the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt witht two Insitutes from BOKU Wien and TU Wien, the research questions of the company partners EREMA Engineering Recycling Maschinen und Anlagen GmbH, Salesianer Miettex GmbH and Starlinger & Co GmbH will be handled. In this contribution we outline the structure and goals of the newly established research center. The energy transition – a burden to industry or a chance for energy innovations? Rudolf Zauner, VERBUND AG, expert on energy innovations, will start the opening day of the Dornbirn-GFC 2024 with a plenary lecture on this question. Working closely with European policymakers, the Policy Hub leverages these technical contributions to propose ambitious sustainability and circular policies for the textile industry in the European Union. The Policy Hub will present an inventory of European legislation adopted under the Green Deal to inform and alert fiber manufacturers and producers to the impact of this legislation on their activities. A comprehensive approach to fabricating non-metallic 3D reinforcement structure, including design, mechanical subsystem such as yarn impregnation and placement module, will be demonstrated in this presentation by @Yue Zheng Wen, Technische Universität Dresden. Co-Authors Lars Hahn and chokri cherif. This autonomous solution is a robot-assisted manufacturing system, which is developed based on the 3D coreless #filament winding #technology. Bio-inspired load transfer mechanism is applied at the design phase to achieve the maximum material efficiency. The European policy and regulatory landscape for the textile industry has been fundamentally changing. A package of EU policies and upcoming regulations are redefining how textile products are made, sold and consumed in the EU. A review has been launched of the EU Textiles Labelling Regulation. Textile fibres and fibre innovations are an important topic of this planned review. Cornelia Mohor form the #European Commission in #Brussels will be part at the Dornbirn GFC as plenary speker on Wednesday, 11th of September. The EU strategy for sustainable and #circular textiles presents the European Commission’s vision for the #textile industry and lists a number of key actions the Commission intends to take on. As part of this planning, the Commission will review the EU Textile Labelling Regulation to introduce specifications for physical and digital labelling of #textiles, including sustainability and circularity parameters based on requirements under the proposed Regulation on eco-design for sustainable products. The Commission has recently carried out a stakeholder public consultation, with a view to collecting evidence in relation to the functioning of the current Regulation and the formulation of possible policy options. Reduction of the carbon footprint through an innovative 5D spunlace production approach, to bring fibres "in shape" where you need, consolidate the fibres locally as the final functions request it. This process is applicable to all type of fibres and is free of any Binder. Tim Natzschka, Norafin Group gives an insight into this complex topic in his lecture at the Dornbirn-GFC 2024. Norafin Technologies, a sister of Norafin industries, extend the current spunlace Technologie to be in position to work on solutions such as Hydro-Stitch that could replace incumbent sewing or sealing technology where non-woven products are in use. New processes and materials are required to free textile industries from petrochemical feedstocks and curb the generation of microplastics in the environment. Risto Martin, KalvoTech gives in his lecture Insights about utilising bio-inspired green chemistries, Prokitein fibres are water-stable and have tuneable porosities and mechanical properties.
