This is the weird screen so I'm a total newbie to Ubuntu, and I was trying to install BalenaEtcher, but things didn't work out, and I couldn't open any folders or find the folder app. I restarted my laptop, hoping it would fix things, but now I'm stuck on this weird screen. Do you have any idea what's going on? My bad. I thought I had included the picture, but I'm on newest Ubuntu, I don't remember what I typed exactly on the command line. Usually when I get an error while trying to install something I'll use ChatGPT, but I don't have the history.

  • Have you tried pressing "Ctrl+Alt+F1" (or with F2 or F3 ...) ?

  • @Marco I just tried that out and gave me a prompt to log in but still on the black screen. My question is getting down voted which i understand i suck at asking questions or atleast making them detailed but i truly dont know how to ask if i dont even know whats going on. Is there like a command that fixes broken packages or anything i dont want to wipe my pc :/

  • It is quiet complex to debug a not starting gdm3 and impossible via this forum, try to fetch someone near you with some ubuntu knowledge. At least you can login on one of the consoles with a login prompt and check the logfiles in /var/log and a way to repair it.
