Usually, normal, hardware switches tend to have a default (implicit!) deny at the end of ACLs, so in if that was the case for the distributed virtual switch as well and you would turn on filtering on a port group, you might seriously harm your existing infrastructure as you would drop all traffic that wouldn't have any explicit allow statement. Really, try the Ubuntu way, that way You can at least save your data (like copy them to a USB hard disk or something). If you have the capacity, You can actually save a copy of the C: partition using dd so You can browse it later in case You missed something. Let me know, if this is interesting for You. After that, you will probably have to reinstall - I know, that is very inconvenient. While You are at it, consider upgrading to an SSD, if You haven't one already.

Then I offer an overall better solution - SSH and possibly OpenWRT, which also puts you in control of your device. This is what I think the user actually wants.

@miroxlav This is why I do hardware burn in before I start using it seriously or at least make sure, the whole device is under NBD warranty so I get a replacement on time, while using some backup laptop or desktop. It helps a lot, when you have a good backup, automated bootstrap and a few devices you can stand in extended use with a modern web browser and many tabs open :-)
