My HDD is terribly slow when it comes to writing big files (4-5MB/s). KDiskMark result Copy from laptop to HDD via 1Gb net via FTP

I read that I should enable write cache, but hdparm says "not supported" HDParm write cache not supported

How could I enable it? I run Ubuntu 22.04 on ESXi 6.7 HDD is Seagate Barracuda ST10000DM0004 10TB SATA III 3,5" My drive settings in vCenter vCenter drive settings

Did some copy testing, run KDiskMark

  • I presume VMWare, being a commercial product, has excellent support. I'd try opening a support ticket with them.

Where is write caching generally enabled: on the VM or the host? Is the Ubuntu machine the VM? Is the slowness limited to your VM, or is the host slow as well? Commented 2 days ago
  • You run hdparm inside the VM? Commented 2 days ago
