Is there a way to use the Security Key C NFC (not to confuse with other yubico keys) to login on windows? Yubico states that it is not possible. My many onlineservices are compatible with my key and even mac os. When entering the yubikey manager the only supported option is FIDO2. Do you know any additional software that extends the windows logon capabilities so that I can use that protocol? It's hard to find reliable information on it since most articles confuse it the the Yubikey 5 or other keys that support multiple protocols.

  • What you want to do is not possible with the Yubikey Security Key. At first I thought it was possible to use Entra ID, closer inspection of the compatible services, Entra ID nor Entra ID with smart cards are support by that device. Windows user authentication requires PIV support.

  • Ok, guess I'll need to wait for windows to support it. However, yubico states that linux supports fido: support.yubico.com/hc/en-us/articles/… so this would be a reason to switch to it finally Commented Jun 22 at 12:15
  • Windows already supports FIDO just not for user authentication

  • Doesn't me using it for online services already imply that? Commented Jun 23 at 4:35
  • Your last comment was sort of vague. You said you would wait until Windows to support it but didn’t specify what “it” was.
