I've just benchmarked some memory devices using GNOME Disks and F3. Here's a summary:
Device | Size | Avg Write | Min Write | Max Write | Chart |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Compact Flash | 64 MB | 1.1 MB/s | 1.1 MB/s | 1.1 MB/s | benchmark 1 |
Compact Flash | 130 MB | 7.3 MB/s | 7.2 MB/s | 7.4 MB/s | benchmark 2 |
General USB | 2 GB | 5.0 MB/s | 4.0 MB/s | 6.5 MB/s | benchmark 3 |
SD Card | 2 GB | 4.7 MB/s | 3.5 MB/s | 5.0 MB/s | benchmark 4 |
SD Card | 4 GB | 3.2 MB/s | 2.0 MB/s | 4.5 MB/s | benchmark 5 |
Thumb Drive | 8 GB | 971 KB/s | 0 | 14 MB/s | benchmark 6 |
Notice that the write rate of the Thumb Drive (SanDisk Cruzer Blade) is the worst, even though this device is the newest.
However, AFAIR, this thumb drive wasn't that slow just a little while ago.
To check what was going on, I've teardown it. Unfortunately, I could not find any explanation:

Question
Why the write rate of this Thumb Drive is getting so slow?
