DOCSIS 4.0 interop hits record 9-Gig downstream speeds [lightreading.com]

Nothing wrong with trying to get faster speeds, but competitors are going full fiber and cable ISP are trying everything to keep hybrid fiber/coax even in new housing developments. Even using Bead and other government grant money on coax.

Existing cable lines may be able to go to 1.2ghz, but going to 1.8ghz or 3ghz means replacing everything active on the system. Every piece of equipment on both the coax side and fiber side. In many cases even the coax drops to the houses. For older houses to utilize higher frequencies they must be fully replaced including splitters and coax inside the houses or buildings.
The signal losses are also much higher a 1.8ghz and way more at 3ghz to where cable operators will most likely have to switch to using a coax gateway on the side of the house that then feeds the rest of the house. They will have very short distance limits on the coax.

I would love to see a report that talks about how DOCSIS 4.0 is more cost effective than just replacing the house drops with fiber for an all fiber system.
No one has really issued a report that explains how DOCSIS 4.0 is more cost effective at 3ghz.
Or what cable ISPs long term milestones are for speeds and finally switching to fiber.
How long do they plan to use coax which will never be able to compete with fiber speeds?

They are showing that DOCSIS 4.0 can get them 10gbps/2.4gbps under ideal conditions with all new equipment.
Right now major docsis ISPs have a 10 - 50 mbps limit on upload due to limitations on coax while fiber providers are fully symmetric at all speeds.

T-Mobile into FTTH

Makes sense if they have the long haul for it. They have been small fiber to the tower deployment in Seattle recently. Hope it works out.

AT&T Troll Toll

Even though Verizon has the worst coverage in my region, recently, there is not even a close second for slow speeds to AT&T. AT&T could quadruple their speeds in my area and it still wouldn't touch the average for my T-Mobile 5G connection. Sure, it's faster than their LTE network. But that's not saying much. So now I get to pay them more for half the speeds instead of a 10th of them?

FCC asks for more money to help telecom providers replace Huawei and ZTE gea

Those that control congress should be 100% on board with spending the extra money as they claim there are security threats even though they cannot share the evidence.
I imagine this will pass very quickly.
