Piano Project

Piano instruction for children 6-12

Welcome!

Welcome to the Piano Project at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music!
Piano Project is a piano program designed for children ages 6-12.  The program’s core mission is to build a healthy, sturdy pianistic foundation to cultivate a lifelong relationship with the instrument and music. We aim to provide an education that instills a solid understanding of both music and the piano that allows for tension-free playing, whilst developing a child’s imagination and, most importantly, their love of music. We facilitate these learning experiences through a two-pronged approach: individual music lessons with a piano teacher, followed by a group musicianship class. The Piano Project meets on Tuesdays between 5 and 7pm in the Music Building of the Butler School of Music.

Eligibility

The Piano Project is open to children who are between the ages of 6 and 12 on September 1st of the application year. We strictly enforce this policy. No prior experience with music or the piano is required.

Teaching Team

Our teachers are undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate piano students enrolled in the Piano Project Director’s class, Piano Pedagogy.

The class trains and equips teachers to provide piano lessons to the Piano Project’s students.
