New director appointments start July 1, 2024.

Denise Saint Arnault Named Director of the Center for Japanese Studies

We are delighted to announce that Professor Denise Saint Arnault has been appointed as the new director of the Center for Japanese Studies (CJS), effective July 1, 2024.

The Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) promotes and disseminates research on Japan, fosters communication among diverse disciplines, and encourages new approaches in the understanding of Japan and its place in the world.

Founded in 1947, CJS is the oldest interdisciplinary center in the United States with a mission to promote research and teaching in Japanese studies.

CJS is home to faculty and students from a variety of disciplines and professional schools, artists and scholars visiting from near and far, and community organizations engaged in Japan-related activities in Michigan.
