Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2019
Knowing the quality that comes out of products engineered by Xiaomi and their partners, I decided to give the WalkingPad P1 a try over similar devices. My job is fairly sedentary and sometimes restricts my schedule to the point that it is hard to make free time to head to a Gym or spend time driving out to a park/trail for a jog or walk. This is the perfect middle ground in order to get a decent workout at home, blow off a little steam, or use it as a companion for a standing desk in order to have a custom "treadmill desk" office setup.

Unboxing: The WalkingPad is encased within two cardboard boxes for protection and the outer one may show up fairly worn, given all the transit it has to go through before it makes it to your door. The inner box however, makes it to you in pristine, "store shelf" condition. The device itself weighs about 70LBS which I think is not cumbersome at all, given this is a piece of fitness equipment. Other treadmills likely exceed 180LBS. The unboxing process is extremely simple if you follow the handful of instructions on the box. All that is required is for the box to be opened from the top, flipped upside down, and the WalkingPad will slide out with minimal effort. Very "turn-key", especially given that I don't believe this needs a second person, unless you plan to relocate the WalkingPad to another floor in the house. Then it is definitely a "Team-Lift" effort.

Accessories/Additional Contents: Aside from the WalkingPad itself, the other included items are: (1): The Remote (2): Remote Lanyard (3): Silicone Lubricant (4): A C13 Standard Power Cord (5): Documentation and other instruction pamphlets (6): A Hex wrench for adjustments to the belt.

Setup: The WalkingPad comes pre-assembled, and only the packing material needs to be removed. It has two very convenient smooth casters on the end of the device so that it can be rolled around conveniently. About 5ML of Silicone Lubricant should be applied under the belt in a straight horizontal line upon first time setup, and every subsequent 3 months. The remote for the P1 requires two AAA batteries which are not included. (I believe the A1 requires a C2450 for its remote but I am not certain). I believe this variant of the WalkingPad is NOT dual voltage, 120V AC 60hz only for North America. Haven't checked but it shouldn't pull more than 800 watts max at the wall. Hex wrench adjustments to the belt can be made at the rear of the device but should not be necessary upon first unboxing. In North America, the "WalkingPad" app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play for Android devices. This is required for first time setup to unlock full functionality of the WalkingPad. I **MUST** note that in order for the tutorial to be completed, the WalkingPad must be on a ****hard floor surface**** so that Automatic mode will function correctly. You *CANNOT* proceed and complete the tutorial unless it is on a hard floor. This left me scratching my head for a while as I first set it up on carpet. I had presumed it was defective - but this was user error. After you complete the tutorial, and you only desire to use manual speed selection, you may relocate it to a soft/carpet surface if you desire, or a very rigid board/blocks of some sort can be placed under the WalkingPad to get around this. The sensors for Automatic (dynamic speed based on your position on the walking surface), seem to be affixed to the feet of the device, and are not within the belt/center of the device.

WalkingPad App: The App itself is very simple to use, and requires modest specifications from a smartphone/tablet. It interfaces over bluetooth. After the first-time setup (which demonstrates auto and manual modes and explains usage of the remote), you can use the app instead of the remote to change speed/mode, or to enter various maintenance modes and configure other options for the WalkingPad, such as max speed. It also tracks distance, but on iOS it does not seem to interface with apple healthkit. This is fine, I use an Apple watch to track walking distance and it does a great job when the workout mode is set to "indoor walk". The built in tracking and the Apple watch tend to agree within 5% of each other after the end of all the workouts I have done so far, in the case that you might be interested in recording workout metrics manually elsewhere.

Functionality: As a first time treadmill owner, I am very impressed with the features this offers. Automatic mode might suit certain interests better, but I prefer to use Manual mode exclusively. So far, my average session on the device (when using it for just fitness and not with a standing desk while working), ends up being about a 45 to 1 hour run. The WalkingPad tops out at 6Km/H and I tend to do most of the workout at this speed, as the cardio/heart rate/endurance aspect is what I am most interested in. It holds up very well through the entire session and it is very comfortable all the way through. I tend to switch between using cushioned socks or a pair of running shoes. The walking deck is very comfortable at all speeds, but if you would like to use this for faster/endurance based workouts, I would highly recommend a good pair of walking or running shoes for heel comfort. Be mindful that shoes instead of the socks will be slightly louder in the case that you need to be conscious of your acoustic output for neighbors/etc. The motor runs very quiet and is barely audible. The whole thing is virtually silent. Nearing the 50 minute mark at the max speed of 6Km/H, a slight whir/hum is noticeable from the motor but it is not excessive. I am not sure whether this is simply the sound profile it has after warming up, or if it might be "complaining" at this point. I doubt most users will encounter this issue, as more than an hour at max speed is not the intended use of this product. Anything below 4 however I have found allows you to run the WalkingPad for a very long time with no noise at all. This makes it a fantastic option if you have a standing desk. I won't go into specifics here, as there is lots of commentary on the topic to be found elsewhere.

False Preconceptions: Looking at other products I thought I was going to need a walking deck in excess of 20x55 inches in order to be comfortable. This is not the case. The WalkingPad's 16x42 inch deck is more than sufficient for any stride up to max speed. I also thought a folding apparatus would make the device more fragile than it needs to be, however, it is *Extremely* solid. This is a very, very well built machine with a beautiful complimentary design for all the engineering underneath. I am surprised at how easy it is to transport and operate. It is the perfect device for anyone looking to get some extra movement in their day all the way up to entry-level speed walkers or those interested in something to supplement a cardio workout.

Long Term/Reliability: This device is built so well I anticipate it will be running well beyond the 4-5 year mark. As of yet, I don't believe there is a specific location in North America that offers spare parts or repair, however for simple issue any fitness equipment repair location/store should be able to help you out. Ensuring the belt is aligned and well lubricated will extend the life of the device. One week in and I have had no issue so far, but I will certainly update this if something needs to be noted. I plan to purchase one or two more for family/friends after I have put it through its paces for a month.

Final Thoughts: I am so pleased I chose to go with this WalkingPad P1 over similar devices. There have been no glaring issues with the device and its setup. Highly recommend! I was deciding between this, a SereneLife, and a LifeSpan offering. I am glad I went with this one. It has complimented my setup/living space/fitness regime fantastically well and is the most versatile treadmill out there. This is the "Volkswagen Beetle" of treadmills; I say that in the most endearing and kind way possible. It is affordable, compact, versatile, lovable, efficient and accessible no matter who you are or what your fitness goals might be.

TLDR: If you get stuck on the tutorial when switching to automatic mode, take it off the carpet! It only works on hard surfaces in auto mode. Keep it clean and lubricated and this will last a very long time.

Disclaimer: All the opinions and deliberation expressed here and my own thoughts and findings. I was not compensated for this product/review in any way. This WalkingPad has been elusive and hard to find so far, especially in North America. Trust me, it is the real deal! Very happy with the purchase and pleased to find it fulfilled by Amazon so that the international shipping headache, (and so on..) could be avoided. Please comment on this review if you have any questions! :D

I’m only in week 1 of owning the walking pad and I’ve used it every day for at least an hour. It’s not the lightest and I could see how some might consider it bulky, but I’m a petite woman in a 12’x12’ home office and it fits me and my space very well; I’m also able to lift and move it without issue. I purchased this when moving to a fully remote job and I’m very thankful I did, as I’m very much a busy body and often buzzed around the corporate office. The weather is cold now so getting my walks in are made very simple with the walking pad; and it’s convenience allows me to do shorter, but more frequent walks throughout the day. For me, the pad feels quite sturdy under my feet, like I don’t bounce around on it/doesn’t feel like it’s going to break under me. One thing I did need to get used to was that this belt is not as wide as a typical treadmill. If someone is aware that they may take up more space, or prefer more room to work with, then a compact treadmill like this isn’t for you. Other than that, I didn’t have any trouble getting the pad up and running. The remote isn’t intuitive, but it’s just very simple/basic, but it works just fine! I even like that it tells me the amount of time I’ve been on it and my step count. Simple and sturdy. If you work from home full time and can commit to more movement throughout the day, the walking pad can help make great changes to your health. Having it does nothing, using it is the key. I felt it was worth the money and so far do not regret such a large purchase. Purchase a bottle of treadmill lube also (don’t need an applicator). I will certainly update this post if I begin to have issues with the quality or technology.

I wrote a review in 2023 that had almost a thousand upvotes it might’ve even been the highest rated review. It then mysteriously disappeared. Read on and you will see why.——2023 review: Defeats its own purpose. I am pretty upset. Originally gave 2 stars but editing & would give 0 if I could. My original review wasn’t even that bad, just honest. After reaching the front page as the first review to appear, the manufacturer contacted me, was insistent to take our conversation off the web site, where they then requested that I delete my review for refund. Knowing what I know now, I was clearly deceived into buying this by inflated stars. Sort by newest reviews and you’ll see a more accurate snapshot of how people feel. I wish I knew this before. I did NOT accept the refund and never received one.
—-ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW—-
I have only had this for a week but have learned a few things I wish I knew before buying since it is quite an expensive purchase. It’s a good product but only truly excellent if you have very specific needs. For me, it doesn’t meet its stated purpose and I could’ve bought something more suitable for a lot less money. This is best for those who are shorter and those who have an actual standing desk. You should not be buying this if you expect to run/jog or have the space and don’t need to fold it up.

Your height—First and most important, the suitability is heavily dependent on how tall you are (and the corresponding length of your stride). If you are shorter, this is probably a good compact treadmill. I’m taller, have long legs, and a very long stride. On average, I normally walk a 15 min mile. The walking pad is great for walking but the max (unlocked) speed only gets me to a brisk walk, never a run or jog. Let’s not even get into why you have to walk to unlock a max speed on this. A brisk walk is fine but there are smaller, more compact devices that work for that and cost much less.

The length—the device is quite long when open, length you would actually need the faster you run/walk. If I’m walking a slow pace, I don’t even use half of the length of the treadmill. Which means I could’ve just bought one of those short treadmills that take up significantly less space. But if I’m walking much faster, and especially if I’m jogging or running, I would need the entire length of this treadmill and for that, the length is quite good even for someone my height with a long stride. Again, the problem is that the max speed doesn’t get me to a jog so I don’t ever use the entire length. The taller you are, the longer your stride so you would think you need the added length this treadmill has, EXCEPT that the taller you are, the faster you walk so you’ll never reach a speed on this that necessitates the length. It’s counterintuitive but you only need length if your machine can move very fast for your stride. And if it’s only fast for those with shorter legs, then do those people need something this long? There are treadmills that are cheaper and smaller, the same length as this when it’s folded up. Those would probably work just as well.

Standing desk use—this machine is envisioned for someone with a standing desk to walk very slowly while working. For that purpose, it’s very good but again, you don’t really need something this long, even if it folds up. Nonetheless, the walkingpad is really only good if you have an actual desk. There is quite a bit of space at the top of the machine where the motor is so you’re walking already a little set back. Plus when you walk, your stride kicks forward a bit. Your body is positioned in the middle of your moving legs. This means you need to push this machine pretty far underneath the desk in order to work and walk at the same time. This allows your legs/feet to kick forward and under the worktop. If you don’t have space underneath your worktop, your arms won’t be able to reach to comfortably type. If you’re like me, live in a small space and don’t have a desk with an open bottom (I use my kitchen table or counter to work), you can’t work and walk at the same time because you can’t get this far enough underneath the workspace to type. The legs of my table block my ability to push this in and my countertop doesn’t stick out far enough. I can’t get close enough to a computer. And it defeats the whole purpose of this thing.

This is really frustrating because the whole point of a treadmill that folds up is so people who don’t have a lot of space can use a treadmill. So if you have the space for this, then I guess it’s great, but if you had this space, why do you need a machine that folds up when the ones that don’t are half the price? It is also extremely heavy and not easy to move and set up, even with wheels, so it’s unrealistic to think you will use this frequently and also constantly fold it up and roll it away. Let’s be real, because it’s a huge pain and backbreaking. You just won’t do it. Which means you’ll either leave it out (so buy a cheaper one that doesn’t fold) or you will put it away and never use it. It’s also not that thin to store—it says 5.1 inches but it really needs at least 6inch clearance because you have to tilt it in order to use/activate the wheels, which you absolutely need in order to move this thing.

I suppose there is a small market of people who have space and want the ability to fold this up while leaving it in place. But I think that’s a very small number of people. If your situation is anything like mine, I’m sorry to say that this isn’t it and you should save your hard earned money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellente / Excellent!

----------------------------------

I bought this treadmill to use with my standing desk in my home office and I LOVE IT! It's quiet enough that I can use it during calls/meetings, and I am able to easily get my target 10,000 steps per day whilst working. Typing and mouse movements are a little less precise, but you can still work whilst walking as long as the speed isn't too high (I find 3.0 or 3.5 are good settings if I need to type).

It folds away easily and the rollers make it easy to move around on a hard floor, though it might be more difficult on carpet.

The app works well with Apple Health, updating your progress etc. It's well contructed and attractive too.

My one complaint is that the automatic mode seems way too touchy, even when you adjust the sensitivity, so I just stick to manual speed adjustments. I thought the automatic speed adjustment would be a really good feature, but having used it I've realised its really not that important.

5.0 out of 5 stars Game Changer für mich und meine Fitness Journey

Moin,
