Like we say in South Africa: ‘Multi Factor Alles’ Spend a few minutes (why not an hour or two) and do a recce (yes I don’t know how to spell recconaissance) of all the SaaS apps used by your team / users / tribe / underlings / etc. And then, once you find that ‘oh, that is a website thingy we use to manage all or client prospects together with the confidential pricing information’, check that it has MFA enabled. Chances are, there’s a cloud thing somewhere that is hosting a boat load of confidential company info which is being used by three people working from an office location with much better coffee than yours, to which they log in with an email address and a 8 digit password that wasn’t allowed to contain the weird special characters you get to by pressing shift on your keyboard. Reality is, this is a soft target for which a simple setting change can make life so much harder for those lurking in the shadows of the deep dark web. https://lnkd.in/dB3N84ht

Our #IIBA community outreach team recently had an incredibly rewarding experience with high school learners. Shout out to 🗣 Matuma Petunia Langa, Bareng Letsapa, Morongwa Golekanye - MBA, Lungile Mnguni, Auxilia Maomela In our engagement with these bright young minds, we aimed to not only introduce them to the dynamic field of #BusinessAnalysis but also to demonstrate key skills essential for success in this ever-evolving domain: facilitation and storytelling. But why exactly did we choose these two skills? Let's dive in! 💡 We as business analysts took away that there is ambition and drive from the leaners. We witnessed that the students are eager to make a meaningful impact and understand how they can channel their talents into effecting positive change. That's where facilitation and storytelling come into play. Facilitation isn't just about guiding groups through processes; it's about fostering collaboration, sparking creativity, and facilitating consensus. By honing their facilitation skills, these students can become catalysts for effective teamwork and problem-solving in their future careers. But what about storytelling? 📖 Stories have a unique power to captivate, inspire, and educate. They transport us to different worlds, broaden our perspectives, and instill empathy. Through storytelling, students not only grasp complex concepts but also develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others. It's a tool for fostering cultural appreciation, promoting diversity, and nurturing creativity. In our sessions, we didn't just narrate stories, or talk about grades and acceptance at the university; we painted a vivid picture of the journey of a Business Analyst. From humble beginnings to overcoming challenges and driving meaningful change, each story underscored the pivotal role of problem-solving in our profession. The essence of our message? Business Analysts are more than just professionals; they are problem solvers, innovators, and agents of change. In a world hungry for solutions, the skills of facilitation and storytelling empower individuals to navigate complexities, drive innovation, and make a difference. I went out in Stellenbosch to 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐑150 in my pocket and had to borrow money from a friend to pay for petrol. Now, at 22, I just bought my first sports car and work fully remote. This isn't about bragging; it's about taking responsibility for my circumstances and striving for continuous improvement, despite others telling me to slow down. The single biggest thing that changed my life was: 🔍 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭: Surround yourself with people who are much better than you. Funnily enough, by frequenting upper-class clubs and restaurants in Cape Town, where meals cost R600 and drinks are R125, I observed people earning much more than me. This made me realize I was climbing the wrong mountain. I admit, I'm not nearly as successful as the people I compare myself to. However, I have managed to achieve the minimum to live comfortably. I've not only achieved this myself but also helped others follow a similar path. It requires hard work, but anyone can make progress with the right mindset and effort. 💡 𝐔𝐩𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐬: Based on popular demand, I'm putting together workshops on web development, full-stack, and mobile development. These sessions will cover everything from fundamentals and theory to practical projects, how to get paid for building, and how to get hired. I'm figuring out 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 to achieve the same progression as I did and put that into actionable steps. The goal is to: 1. Teach them to build and learn on their own. 2. Help them land their first job in the industry, making R10k-R20k. 3. Quickly get them to an intermediate level within 1-2 years, aiming for R30k+ jobs. 4. Connect them with recruiters and big companies. 5. Enable them to pass on their knowledge and help others succeed too. This way, we help all parties involved. I'm finalizing the details for these workshops and the community, but you'll be the first to know when it's ready. ✨

With all the problems many may say the banks of South Africa have, one thing we should be proud of is that our banking sector really is world class and leads the way in many futuristic technologies and ideas. We do still have to keep on innovating, and I see a huge gap (with every gap comes potential) when it comes to the decentralized finance/De-Fi. The blend of trust and security from traditional banking combined with the transparency and speed of De-Fi could be the key to the unlocking the next big leap in the banking sector.

Capitec TigerBeetle #softwareengineering Today we (Capitec) watched a presentation on how to process financial transactions at scale from TigerBeetle. My first thoughts are: 1) Core banking is weird and unnecessary. Aggregating financial products into a single platform is the beginning of the end for a bank. Tiger Bettle is the opposite of core banking, it is solving the processing of financial transactions at scale. 2) Tiger Beetle has moved away from all of the well documented OLTP constraints. They can stream billions transactions using micro batching with consensus protocols to manage faults and create resilience. 3) The engineering is comprehensive and using zig as a programming language choice was bold (I prefer Rustlang - but their logic for zig was sound). 4) Most of the painful transactional use cases are elegantly solved (even distributed transactions). 5) They are using quite a few HFT technology choices, LMAX, ring buffers and disruptors. 6) I really liked the resilience in the storage architectural, this was an unexpected consideration (most engineers ignore storage faults). Whomever designed #tigerbettle was really smart... I havent said that in a long time (#SRD was the last "wow" moment for me). The only question left for me is what is a risk free / simple on ramp for banks that already have >> 20m clients? I think I have an idea.... 🤔🧐
