Some of you will remember the 230km trail run through the Baviaanskloof that Matthew Cross did as a fundraiser for Rangers. One helluva effort! Well last week we got to distribute the Jim Green boots, day packs and hydration bladders to the 22 rangers who protect the incredible biodiversity of this World Heritage Site! Thanks again Matt, Jim Green Footwear , Gareth Crouch and all who made this possible! Good kit goes a long way to help make life a little more comfortable for nature's protectors. #RangerGear #SupportAfricasRangers #Baviaanskloof #EasternCape

Truly one of the most impactful projects I have been involved in which delivers direct support to ranger teams whilst building camaraderie (and wellness). We can't wait to see all the teams at the starting line in support of Africa's rangers! Will you be lining up? A big thank you to NATURAL STATE and the Scheinberg Relief Fund for their ongoing support. Further details available on https://lnkd.in/dEDd8dPf #ForWildlifeRangers

Last week during the EarthRanger User Conference I had the opportunity to moderate a panel on "Best Practice Approaches to Ranger Training" with panelists and GRAA members Duncan Bam (Resolve Wildlife), Greg Murphy (Chengeta Wildlife) and James Stiles (Conservation Outcomes). We shared some of the learnings in documenting the "Guidelines and Recommendations for Ranger Training in Africa" due for release by the Game Rangers' Association of Africa . It will be a guide to protected area managers, conservation management authorities, NGOs supporting rangers and donors funding ranger training with the aim of improving how we approach ranger training in the industry. Get in touch if you'd like to know more. The conference itself had a great "Ranger" flavour with plenty of field conservationists mixed with those from the conservation tech industry. Was great to catch up with Neddy Mulimo from Game Rangers International after he delivered his keynote address on the importance of supporting rangers and their work. What a legend! Thanks to Jes Lefcourt Jordan Steward Bruce Jones and the team at EarthRanger for a great few days! #ERUC23 #EarthRanger #SupportAfricasRangers 📸:1&2 : EarthRanger 3: Tessa Hempson

The IRF's mission is to advance the Ranger profession and its critical role in conservation of natural and cultural resources.
The International Ranger Federation (IRF) invite you to be part of the STATE OF THE RANGER REPORT. A first global report on the ranger profession worldwide. Following up on the Life on the frontline report (2019), the State of the Ranger Report aims to raise the profile of rangers, their role as an essential planetary service so that it gets the much-needed support it deserves. For more information about this research, please read the explanation documents here: https://t.ly/OrPMy ADD YOUR VOICE TO THE RANGER PROFESSION Your participation is essential. We are trying to get an employer and ranger perspective to balance out the report. Thus, we designed two different surveys for each key stakeholder. Please help us by taking the survey: Employer survey*: https://lnkd.in/gGGGGHX2 Ranger survey**: https://lnkd.in/g-XUtjZq Surveys and background information are available in 16 languages: Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Bengali, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Malayalam, Portuguese, Russian, Sinhalese, Spanish, Swahili, Tamil, and Thai. The survey is expected to range from 15-30 minutes. Your responses will be anonymous. Deadline: 30th of September, 2023 This is just the first step, we are looking forward to collecting and updating data more frequently. For example, at each World Ranger Congress. This will allow the comparison of data with previous reports in order to track the level of progress against the global efforts and investments to improve the ranger sector. Please feel free to share this information with your colleagues. For the purpose of this report: *Employer: refers to any of the following where the rangers work at: Government, NGO, community authority, private, other Individuals or a group of individuals that play a critical role in conservation. ** Rangers: person responsible for safeguarding nature, and cultural and historical heritage, and protecting the rights and well-being of present and future generations. As representatives of their authority, organisation, or community, they work, often for extended periods, in protected and conserved areas and wider land and seascapes, whether state, regional, communal, Indigenous or private, in line with legal and institutional frameworks. If you're going to the The African Leadership University ALU School of Wildlife Conservation Business of Conservation Conference in Kigali, Rwanda this week, pop into this event hosted by the Game Rangers' Association of Africa. We will be discussing how to integrate rangers into the business of conservation. As key stakeholders surely they should benefit more from the Wildlife Economy? If you can't attend but have ideas or questions about this concept, please leave them below and we will attempt to address them during the session! Looking forward to this one!
