One of the largest money transfer providers in Africa and a leading next-generation financial services platform.

About us

Mukuru is one of the largest money transfer providers in Africa and a leading Next Gen Financial Services Platform that offers affordable and reliable financial services to the emerging consumer. The foundation of our business was built by providing the continent’s migrant diaspora with safe, convenient international money transfers. From this base we have grown a wide range of products and services that take their cue from our customers’ needs and aspirations for greater financial security and a better life. To this end, we continue to build a highly robust and resilient physical and digital financial payments infrastructure across Africa that unlocks new value-added services for our loyal customers. This includes cash transfers, Mukuru Funeral Cover, and the Mukuru Card. As a fintech provider, Mukuru has underpinned its successful customer engagement strategy with the ability to ‘speak the language’ of its users and gain a grassroots understanding of the unique pain points that customers face in each market. Our engagement platforms include WhatsApp, free USSD, the Mukuru App, and the website. Customers are always able to speak to Mukuru about any challenges or difficulties with the platform, whether it’s a Mukuru agent in a physical booth, at a branch, over the telephone, or via a virtual live chat function in a language of the customer’s choosing, and often in their mother tongue. Take a walk through our Contact Centre at any time, and you’ll hear conversations in 15 languages – our very own united nations of Africa and Asia.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our panel event at Sentech Africa Tech Week in Cape Town. It was thrilling to see the enthusiastic engagement from the audience and have the opportunity to answer your questions. What a privilege to share our experiences with you about the ways we’ve leveraged our brand and strength in cross border payments to evolve platform financial products. We also engaged in a lively discussion about the power of the omnichannel platform and the ability to bring tech to new markets through platform leverage and aggregator partnerships. Lastly, we dived into how we’ve scaled and leveraged our own tech in AWS and the potentially limitless outcomes of the matrix affect in reaching multiple customers in new markets. Thank you to Mukuru CIO SANDRA RHEEDER for her role as moderator, and our panellists: Andy Jury, Juan Seco, Lorraine Nyawo, Tendai Tizirai and Andy Gardner.

Mukuru held its annual Leadership Conference (MUCON) in Citrusdal last week. This gathering of our senior leadership was an extraordinary two-day experience that combined profound learning and reflections with moments of pure enjoyment. Our theme was Lead-People-Impact, with the key outcome spotlighting our ability to lead and impact the business from a people/human-centric orientation. Day 1 was outwardly focused with an Amazing Race Adventure that saw our leaders walk in the shoes of our customers, gaining invaluable insights into the ways in which our customers experience our products and services. Day 2 turned the spotlight inward with an emphasis on our leadership behaviours at Mukuru and how we bring these behaviours to life when leading our functions and teams. Amid serious reflection, the combination of both fun and serious activities enabled us to foster better partnerships, collaboration and unity, and strengthen bonds within this exceptional leadership team. #Mukuru #LeadPeopleImpact #Peoplecentric #SeniorLeadership #Leadfromthefront #Customerexperience #ImpactfulLeadership #TeamUnity #Collaboration #ItStartswithMe

Mukuru has been selected as a finalist in not one, but two categories for the prestigious Sentech Africa Tech Week Awards! 🏆✨ Firstly, we're honoured to be recognised in the Fintech of the Year category. This accolade highlights companies revolutionising the financial services sector through groundbreaking technological solutions. At Mukuru, our dedication to innovation is fuelled by our unwavering commitment to serving our customers and advancing financial inclusion across the African continent. Being shortlisted is a testament to the tireless efforts of our team and the impact of our platform in transforming lives. Secondly, we're incredibly proud to announce the nomination of SANDRA RHEEDER, Mukuru CIO, for the Women in Fintech Award. This recognition celebrates the remarkable achievements of women who have demonstrated exceptional innovation and excellence in technology. Mukuru CEO Andy Jury says of Sandy: “She is a phenomenal leader. She works hard to create an environment in which her teams self-actualise. She listens, motivates and extends her team without making soft compromises. She is empathetic, nuanced in her approach and ‘watches the game’ whilst giving her teams ‘enough air to breathe and grow’. In the binary and often uncompromising world of code and technical infrastructure, the way in which she creates a sense of belonging for her team is truly unique.” These nominations wouldn't have been possible without the continuous support of our valued customers, partners, and the entire Mukuru community. Your trust and confidence inspire us to push the boundaries of what's possible in the world of fintech.    As we eagerly await the results, we remain humbled and grateful for this incredible recognition. Thank you for being a part of our journey as we continue to strive for excellence and drive positive change across Africa. 🌍💫 #AfricaTechWeekAwards #Fintech #WomenInFintech #FinancialInclusion #Innovation

Mukuru is putting its muscle behind Zimbabwe’s national rugby team as it seeks to achieve Rugby World Cup qualification for the first time since 1991! Sporting Mukuru's branding on their jerseys, the Sables faced Zambia on 4 May, carrying the hopes of a nation. They came out victorious in a closely contested 32 - 28 clash against a talented Zambia side. Well done! Brandon Lemuel Mncube ( MMDB ), Chief Marketing Officer at Mukuru, says the sponsorship of the Sables made sense as the team displays the same passion and love for the country as Mukuru. “The Sables embody the same passion that has seen Mukuru grow exponentially across the continent. Just as we are passionately driven to provide relevant and competitive financial services products that delight our customers in Zimbabwe and abroad, one gets a real sense of the confidence in this team – all the way from administrators to the coaches and of course, the players. Mukuru is backing the Sables to achieve their goal. #rugby #ZimRugby #MukuruChampions

Recently, Jasmine Adam, Head of People Acquisition at Mukuru and Carmelo Naciti, Head of Engineering Infotech at Mukuru, were invited as keynote speakers to the HyperionDev Alumni Networking Event in Johannesburg. Carmelo spoke about ‘Smooth Seas Do Not Make Skilful Sailors – Navigating Innovation in fintech. He gave fascinating insight into innovation in the face of adversity, how to navigate rough seas to emerge stronger and more resilient in the fintech industry, and the inspirational ways Mukuru navigates choppy waters. Jasmine gave attendees an overview of exciting career opportunities at Mukuru and passed on advice about how to stand out when applying for roles:  - Before an interview, research the company.  - Prep a list of questions. For example: Please tell me more about your internship programme, or do you offer career growth?  - Ask about the work culture. Keep in mind, you’re also interviewing the company to see if it’s a place you’d like to work.  - Ask someone to check your CV. Run spell check. This demonstrates attention to detail.  - Provide a link in your CV to work you’ve done or an online portfolio.   - If you get a request for an interview, read up on the people who will interview you. You can usually find this info on LinkedIn.  - Companies like to ask competency-based questions in an interview like, ‘Tell me about a time when you worked in a team’ so have examples ready. Role play with a friend will help you practice getting to the point quickly and will calm your nerves.  - Indeed Employment Site has a guide online called “28+ Common Interview Questions and How to Answer Them”. Use it to prepare.   - For tech roles, we do technical assessments and psychometric tests. It’s difficult to prepare for these. Just make sure you have a good internet connection and set aside quiet time when you can focus and do the assessments online.
