Does Amica have good car insurance?
Amica offers good car insurance, with extensive coverages and discounts available, but it is not the most affordable of the insurers we analyzed.
Amica has above-average rates for good drivers and drivers with violations on their records, such as speeding tickets and accidents. However, the insurer is strong in terms of customer satisfaction and quality repairs of collision claims.
Types of car insurance offered by Amica
Amica offers all of the essential forms of auto insurance and common add-ons, including:
- Liability insurance: Drivers in most states are required to carry a minimum amount of bodily injury liability coverage and property damage liability coverage. Property damage liability covers damage to the other party’s car if you’re at fault for an accident. Bodily injury liability covers the other party’s medical bills, pain and suffering, lost wages and funeral expenses if you’re at fault for an accident. Liability insurance also pays for your legal defense if you’re sued as a result of an accident.
- Medical payments: Also known as MedPay, this helps to cover your and your passengers’ medical bills and funeral expenses after an accident.
- Personal injury protection (PIP): PIP is similar to MedPay in that it covers you and your passengers’ medical bills and lost wages, but it goes a step further by covering lost wages and pays for things like childcare and other everyday expenses if your accident-related injuries leave you unable to complete them. PIP is required in no-fault insurance states.
- Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage: Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverages help to cover your bills if you’re hit by another driver with insufficient insurance or none at all. In addition to necessary medical bills, it covers pain and suffering, lost wages, funeral expenses and damage to your vehicle.
- Collision insurance: Covers damage to your own car resulting from a collision with another vehicle or a stationary object, regardless of who was at fault. If you hit a fence, telephone pole or pothole, collision insurance can help pay to repair your vehicle.
- Comprehensive insurance: Comprehensive coverage pays to repair damage that isn’t caused by a collision, such as theft, fire, vandalism, weather damage, riots and falling objects.
- Gap insurance: If your car is totaled, gap insurance will cover the difference between the current value of your vehicle and the amount you still owe on your loan or lease. If you lease or finance your vehicle, you may be required to purchase gap insurance. Amica calls gap insurance “Auto Loan/Lease Coverage.”
- Rental reimbursement: Covers transportation costs while your car is in the shop after a covered claim. This can include the cost of rentals, ridesharing, taxis, trains and buses.
- Rideshare coverage and delivery driving coverage: Extended coverage if you drive for a company like Uber, Lyft, GrubHub or DoorDash.
- Roadside assistance: Amica’s 24/7 roadside assistance coverage includes towing (including for breakdowns), changing flat tires, jump-starting batteries, gas delivery, getting unstuck from mud or snow and locksmithing.
Amica also bundles several add-ons into a single package, Platinum Choice Auto, for enhanced financial protection.
Amica’s Platinum Choice Auto includes:
- Credit monitoring service.
- Glass repair or replacement without a deductible.
- New car replacement coverage (only applies to cars that are under one year old or have fewer than 15,000 miles).
- Prestige rental coverage.

Amica car insurance reviews
Amica has a low level of customer complaints. Its complaint ratio is 0.75, which is below the national average of 1.0.
To determine a car insurance company’s complaint level, we review the most recent data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). NAIC complaint data reflects the number and types of complaints customers submit to their state’s department of insurance or equivalent entity.
Amica got the highest score in J.D. Power’s 2023 Auto Claims Satisfaction Study, beating some of our top-scoring car insurance companies with a score of 909 out of 1,000 points. This study polls customers on their satisfaction with their insurance company’s claims handling, from their trustworthiness to the speed of claim reimbursement.
Additionally, according to the 2024 CRASH Network Insurer Report Card, which rates the nation’s largest insurers based on surveys from auto body repair shops, Amica gets a B+, or 888 out of 1,000. This implies that the company does a decent job of not urging repair shops to cut corners or use low-quality parts. Additionally, this score indicates that the company’s claims service is relatively easy to deal with.
