Rapper Quavo went on Good Morning America Thursday morning to speak about his plea to the US government for stricter gun control.

His talk at the White House comes almost a year after his nephew, and Migos co-member, Takeoff was shot and killed. Reporter Rachel Scott said in her voiceover: "This was a murder that shocked the music world."

Quavo, legal name Quavious Marshall, was said to be "finding purpose through pain" by advocating for gun reform in America. "I know a lot of people out there lost their loved ones to gun violence and I think ain't nothing being done about it," he told Rachel as they stood outside the White House.

Takeoff, birth name Kirsnick Khari Ball, was murdered outside a bowling alley in Houston, Texas on November 1, 2022. He was shot multiple times in the head and chest and Quavo witnessed it happen. Houston police believe that Takeoff was not the intended target of the shooting, while Migos' record label said he was killed by a "stray bullet." No one else was harmed in the altercation.

"I'm a survivor. I was there. So at the same time, it could have been both of us gone. So I look at this as me being alive, I have to do this job and make sure everyone's aware that losing my nephew, you could be in the same position," Quavo added during a sit-down interview with GMA later.

His family created the Rocket Foundation in Takeoff's honor. Its website states that its goal is "to support programs which are saving lives through proven, community-based solutions to prevent gun violence."

"I think all of us together is the key and we need help from this big old building right here," Quavo said motioning to the government building behind him.

When Rachel asked what he thought Takeoff would think of his advocacy, Quavo shifted in his seat, getting emotional. "He'd most definitely be proud of me. But I just know he never leaves my side, it's a tough thing knowing that we're separated and I'm not gonna see him again on this earth," he said, "I know he's proud."

Migos consisted of Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset. The rap group is no longer together after Takeoff's murder. Offset was in the news recently after Nicki Minaj's husband Kenny Petty was placed under house arrest for sending threatening messages to him through social media.
