Tom Hanks' son Chet Hanks punches 42-year-old burglar as cop left with broken leg

Chet Hanks had a scary encounter at his home in Los Angeles as he had to punch a 42-year-old burglar.

The 33-year-old actor, who is the son of Tom Hanks, found the intruder in his house early Monday morning. The police arrived quickly and arrested the 42-year-old man. But things got messy when the man fought back, causing an officer to break his leg.

Both the officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital. After the man was checked out at the hospital, he was charged with burglary. His case will now go to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Luckily, Chet wasn't hurt in the incident.

"In the commission of the burglary, Victim Hanks had to defend himself against the suspect and was able to subdue him until department personnel arrived on scene. The suspect was handcuffed and arrested at the location," the police told TMZ.

The statement went on: "While escorting the suspect to the patrol vehicle, a deputy did sustain an injury to his leg. The suspect and the deputy were transported to the local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. After the suspect's treatment, he was transported and booked at Marina Del Rey Station for burglary and other violations are still being investigated."

"This is an on-going investigation, and the department is not in the position to provide further information at this moment," it concluded.

This isn't Chet's first brush with the law. His ex-girlfriend Kiana Parker accused him of psychological and physical abuse. She filed a lawsuit claiming he shoved her, grabbed her, and called her a "ghetto black b***h" who wouldn't be believed if she reported his abuse.

The lawsuit also claimed that Chet threatened to commit murder-suicide while Kiana's nine year old twins were in the house. Chet and his lawyers responded by saying that Kiana had hit Chet over the head with a pot, leaving him with a bloody wound on his forehead.

Chet is the oldest son of Tom Hanks, 67, and Rita Wilson, 66. He's tried his hand at rap music but is mostly known as an actor who has appeared in shows like Empire and Shameless.
