Saving Private Ryan hit cinemas back in 1998 and catapulted the likes of Matt Damon and Vin Diesel to stardom.

The movie, set during the Normandy invasion of World War II, follows Captain John Miller, played by Tom Hanks, as he is assigned the task of searching for Private James Ryan, played by Damon, whose three brothers have already been killed in the war.

The movie was one of the most successful films of 1998 and was considered one of the greatest films ever made, earning critical acclaim for its graphic portrayal of combat. World War II veterans said the combat scenes were most realistic portrayal of their own experiences and some were unable to watch it due to their traumatic memories.
