This ultra-luxe overlander rig is like a G-Wagon on steroids, and we love it

For $350,000, you too can glamp in this ultra-premium overlander

There was a time when truck campers (as in, the “in-bed insert” kind) were seen as a sort of ultra-budget alternative to legit RVs. They were tight on space and amenities but infinitely more affordable than a swanky, full-size motorhome or even a lightweight travel trailer. But we’re not living in that time anymore. These days, some of the most feature-rich, off-road vehicle campers aren’t much bigger than a full-size pickup truck, and some even fit inside a pickup truck. They are, however, a whole lot more expensive. Case in point: The all-new 2023 27North RexRover overlander camper.

The glossy studio pics tell the story of this uber-premium overlanding rig. Every RexRover starts life as a Ford F-250 SuperCab 4×4 — already one of the most capable, field-tested pickups. Every truck comes standard with a beefy V8 for serious torque and a SelectShift 10-speed automatic, so you can keep your eyes on the washboard road ahead and not have to worry about pesky things like gears and shifting. 27North adds beefy wheels and all-terrain tires, plus a 50-inch double LED light bar and extra LED lights at the sides and rear, so you can go just about anywhere and see the road ahead clear as day, even at night. The exterior is kitted out with an outdoor TV, a 10-foot, flush-mount electric awning, and tons of storage for all your best outdoor gear. It’s all wrapped in a blended Kevlar and fiberglass shell that’s not only lightweight but extremely durable.

Inside, it’s a sea of extruded aluminum, high-end finishes, and luxury amenities worthy of an Airstream. A king bed at the rear serves as the master, while the six-person dinette table converts to a queen-sized bed to sleep a total of four. 27North manages to pack in an entire studio apartment’s worth of features, including a well-outfitted kitchen with an oven, an induction cooktop, a deep sink, and expandable countertops for serious food prep space. There’s even a full wet bath shower, a cassette toilet, a heated outdoor washdown, and an optional washing machine. Did we mention that all of this basically fits in the back of a pickup truck?

Like any overlander-worthy rig, the electrical system is built for extended off-road exploring, too. Under the dinette seat are three 200Ah batteries that, when paired with the rooftop solar array, have the potential to support you far from civilization indefinitely. Add to that a 50-gallon freshwater tank and built-in water filtration, and the RexRover is basically its own Biodome.

The 27North RexRover is now available for pre-order. But you better grab your wallet and your friend’s wallet too. This premium overlander truck starts at $350,000. For reference, that same chunk of cheddar will get you two Mercedes-AMG G63 G-Wagons. And that’s before you start ticking all the “optional” (we would argue essential) accessory boxes. But, when you consider that this overlander camper could replace your house, your car, your RV, and your survival bunker, it doesn’t seem like such a bad deal.

Pro tips from Chef Eduardo Garcia for cooking outdoors like a true mountain man
Here's how to really cook like a mountain man
Chef Eduardo Garcia.

When we think of mountain men, we tend to think of rugged and self-sufficient folks who live off of the land. And while that's mostly accurate, it's also 2024, and the definition has evolved. Today's mountain man is personified by chef Eduardo Garcia, who combines culinary expertise and the right cooking tools with an adventurous attitude and focus on the environment.

Garcia has put in some shifts. He's done everything from cooking on yachts to delivering motivational speeches. He's also the host of Big Sky Kitchen, now two seasons deep. The show focuses on outdoor cooking and the many joys of preparing and eating food in the context of nature.

Redtail Overland’s new luxe Skyloft camper van is a $500,000 thing of beauty
With room for four and a sleek, yacht-like interior, this might be the most luxurious camper van money can buy
Redtail Overland Skyloft Campervan parked next to a river.

In a few short years, van life has gotten a whole lot boujee-er. It started with the "functional above all else" style of van living portrayed in Nomadland before evolving into the cutesy, boho-inspired van life of YouTube fame. Now, some of the best custom van builders are crafting ultra-high-end rigs that rival the comfort and design of a luxury studio apartment. Redtail Overland is one such builder, and the company's all-new Skyloft might be one of the swankiest camper vans half a million dollars can buy.
Get the scoop on Redtail Overland's new Skyloft camper van

One of the biggest problems with van living (or living in any tiny travel trailer) is space. Fitting sleeping quarters, a kitchen, a dining/work space, and a bathroom into cramped quarters while keeping it livable is no small feat. Redtail Overland is looking to solve that problem with the Skyloft. By moving the "master bedroom" out of the cabin and into a pop-top sleeping area, the rest of the cabin is freed up for everything else. The result is a surprisingly roomy floor plan with a heated, enclosed wet bath, a full galley kitchen, a large, U-shaped dining/work space, tons of storage, and the capability to transport and sleep four adults.

Compact campervans are getting all the love right now as the go-anywhere adventure vehicles. But, when you’re looking to get seriously off the beaten path, a high-clearance, four-wheel-drive truck is the only way to go. For overlanding pickup owners, slide-in truck bed campers are the easiest all-in-one solution. Thankfully, Tufport just announced their first entry into the Overlander camper space, and it’s a stunner.

The all-new Overlander is built to be a rugged, off-road-ready home away from home for ultra-minimalist overland travelers. The Sea to Sky model—the first model in the Overlander truck camper series—features everything you need and nothing you don’t. Stepping inside through the large rear access door reveals a wall-mounted couch that transforms into a twin bed for maximum live/work/sleep flexibility. Immediately across is a wide galley kitchen with spacious countertops, a vertical pantry cabinet, and plenty of extra storage throughout. An over-cab sleeping area serves as the main “bedroom.” Screened, tinted windows and a roof vent bring plenty of natural light into the space and allow it to feel more airy. It also feels surprisingly roomy at 72 inches wide with 65 inches of interior headroom.
